What inspires me? My answer today is so much different today than if I was asked 6 months ago. I am part of a collective of artists creating in the river arts district in Asheville. Like many others, our studio Trackside was partially destroyed during Hurricane Helene. My other studio was demolished during the storm. Listening. I really believe that’s been the secret sauce to my career. Not just listening to the music or the show itself, but listening to our listeners — when they call in, when they leave a comment, or even when they complain. I’m always listening for ways to make the show better for them. A lot of times, listeners will tell you exactly what they want without even realizing it. If you really pay attention, you can read between the lines and figure out what’s connecting and what’s not.
