We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel Fuller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miguel, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Listening. I really believe that’s been the secret sauce to my career. Not just listening to the music or the show itself, but listening to our listeners — when they call in, when they leave a comment, or even when they complain. I’m always listening for ways to make the show better for them. A lot of times, listeners will tell you exactly what they want without even realizing it. If you really pay attention, you can read between the lines and figure out what’s connecting and what’s not. That’s how you build a show that people don’t just hear — they feel like it’s their show, too.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I’m most proud of is the community we’ve built over the years. From Panama City to Tampa Bay and now here in Charlotte, we’ve created a space where listeners feel like they belong — where they can lean on us, laugh with us, and trust us to show up every day.

Getting here wasn’t easy. A lot of people think radio is just a fun job where you talk and play music, but behind the scenes, it’s a grind. Day in and day out, you’re creating, reinventing, trying to top what you did yesterday, all while being a consistent presence in your listeners’ lives. It’s a balancing act. And like anyone, there are days when you don’t feel like being “on.” But because of the relationship we’ve built with our audience, we’re able to show up as our full, real selves — on the good days and the hard ones.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that authenticity matters. Listeners can always feel when you’re faking it. They may not know exactly what’s off, but they know when you’re not being real. That’s why I’ve always tried to show up as my authentic self — flaws, quirks, and all.

At the end of the day, what I want people to know about me and the Miguel & Holly brand is that we’re in the business of building community. Whether it’s on the air, on social media, or through our podcast, our mission is simple: to make people feel like they’re part of something bigger, something positive, and something real.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop — Optimist Hall. It’s the perfect place to get a little taste of Charlotte all in one spot. Shoutout to Harriet’s Hamburgers and Boxcar Betty’s — you can’t go wrong with either. From there, we’d head over to South End and grab cocktails at Vinyl. The music, the energy, the espresso martinis? Chef’s kiss. Seriously, some of the best in the city.

For a night out, we’d make our way Uptown to Science On The Rocks. I love that place because every time you go, there’s something new and unexpected. After that, tacos at RuRu’s — “It’s Shark Week” is my go-to. Then maybe a quick cocktail at Aargon and end the night dancing it out at Scorpio at RSVP — because if you’re visiting me, we’re definitely going dancing.

Saturday morning, if there’s a Vanity House drag brunch happening somewhere around town, we’re there. If not, we’ll hit brunch at Salted Melon. After brunch, we’d head over to Beat The Bomb — it’s this super fun, interactive experience that’ll have you laughing the whole time. Then, we’d bar hop down the Rail Trail and wrap up the night at home with pizza from Biscotte. Since my husband is from Buffalo, we’re partial to their pizza — and you have to order the pizza logs. Non-negotiable.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The listeners — always the listeners. Without them, there wouldn’t be a Miguel & Holly Show, and honestly, I wouldn’t have been able to last in this industry for almost 20 years. From the early days of doing wild stunts and saying off-the-wall things to later being open about my sexuality, our audience has shown up and supported me every step of the way. It’s been incredible to watch and experience that kind of connection over the years. They’ve not only shaped my career — they’ve shaped me as a person.
