I started my own business in college as a fun, creative, and flexible side hustle to earn extra income. In college, my class schedule did not allow for a full-time job, so I started my own photography business that allowed me to create my own hours. I started my own business in 2021 during the height of the pandemic. I was at a crossroads in my life. I had just left a college program that didn’t work out and my daughter was finishing preschool. I didn’t know what the next step in life would be for me. In my free time, I would scan Instagram for recipes, and arts and craft ideas. One day I came across a clay earring artist. My thought process of starting my own business was that I knew there was a need for the services I could offer. I had spent my whole career as a dental hygienist as an employee. So stepping out to build something on my own was a little scary. However, I was determined and was so ready for a change in my career that I was willing to do whatever it took.
