Meet Taylor Bissette | Singer/songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Bissette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, what inspires you?
I am inspired by the life that we live and the world around us. Everybody goes through heartbreaks, tragedy, and pain. But on the flip side, we all experience happiness at some point, love, and greatness. Sometimes we just don’t know how to express all of these emotions or know how to say the things we want to say. That’s where my job as a songwriter comes in.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I first started writing songs when I was roughly 16 or 17 years old. They weren’t that good when I started. My first few songs were coming from a place of pain and my transition from a skinny nerdy kid to a man. I moved down to Wilmington, NC after graduating high school to continue my academic career at UNCW. I struggled at being away from home, but in that struggle I found a new home in Wilmington’s music scene. I continued to write and made friends and eventually booked my own gigs down here. During this time I learned a lot about life, and how easy and hard people live it. Everyone’s story is different and unique in their own way. I wanted to tell mine and the stories of others through music.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting North Carolina, I’d take him out to Atkinson, NC hunting for some turkey or deer, depending on the time of year. I’d also take them to Whiskey Rose and Uncle Jessie’s Honkytonk in Raleigh to thrown down, always a good time out there. In Wilmington, I’d go down to Jimmy’s on Wrightsville Beach for a slushy or head down to the riverwalk. Maybe swing by Live Oak for a concert. Lizzie B’s Saloon is also a great place to go shoot some pool and have a few beers. We might see someone get on the strip pole.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I’d like to give credit to God for all the things that I have done. None of the things I do and have done would have been possible without Him. I’m a work in progress and He is the worker. I’d love to thank my beautiful girlfriend Kenlea for staying by my side on this crazy ride. My good friend Monty Mesimer who travels with me to every gig and sets up my sound and makes sure that I sound good. My grandparents Jimmy and Edith, who are also there for most of the shows I play, regardless of where they are at. Without these people in my corner, none of this would be possible.
