We had the good fortune of connecting with Nevada York and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nevada, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
One of the main reasons I pursued an creative career in writing is because I’m very passionate about utilizing the gifts that I’ve been blessed with and believe if you don’t use the gifts that you are born with they will go to waste. In addition to bringing a personal fulfillment, a creative and artistic career allows future generations to appreciate the legacy that I leave.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say that my unique writing style sets me apart from others. I am most proud of developing my novels into a short film, it took over ten years of hard work and dedication. Consistency and discipline helped me get to where I am today professionally, it was difficult to not give up on my dreams. There are many “dream-crushers” in the world, when you have a dream, the lesson is to ignore the “dream-crushers” and all negativity that goes against your mission of achieving your dream. The main lesson is never give up, giving up is not an option. The main thing that I want the world to know about me is that I’m a living example of dreams coming true and I believe in continuing to push boundaries until results are achieved. My achievements include: Journey to Salvation workbook, Where’s Boaz? IDK, I’m Tired of Kissing Frogs too (short novel), and my short film: Mahogany’s Revelation

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fun places I would take a friend who planned to visit Raleigh during a weekend – Friday afternoon – go to Zinc House Winery to enjoy the view and delicious wines then off to Bida Manda restaurant located in downtown Raleigh their Crispy Pork Belly soup and Green Papaya Salad are to die for.
Saturday – Go to Big Ed’s for breakfast, JC Raulston Arboretum to take in the beautiful flowers, then off to the The Oak scratch kitchen and bourbon bar for dinner
Sunday- Go to Stir Restaurant in North Hills for brunch and browse at the local shops at North Hills mall then head to Wake Forest for a fabulous Italian dinner at Milazzo’s Ristorante- their cheesecake is out of this world

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely would like to give a Shoutout to my friends and family who supported me along my journey to live out my dream being a writer. During each book signing event, I had tremendous family support which played a role in helping me be bolder in my decisions. Also, special Shoutout to the Every.Black organization, the founder Jimmy Davies was instrumental in connecting me with the right people to have my short film, Mahogany’s Revelation become a reality.
