We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerriann Hammock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kerriann, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
When starting Violette Eve Candle Co. a large piece of the ‘why’ was making our home non-toxic. Whether it be the products we use, the food we consume, or the relationships we foster – we believe in living a non-toxic life. Hence, our brand slogan ‘We like our candles and our friends non-toxic.’ We took it a step further by starting the Unruly Women Collective, which is an organization that instead of just saying we believe in non-toxic living, takes it a step further and says what if we fostered only positive relationships with ourselves and others – how much could we truly accomplish?

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I arrived at where I currently am on the back of several failures. Any entrepreneur and human for that matter needs to allow themselves space to fail. When your mind sees hobbies, passions, or brief moments that consistently spark new business ideas, you have to learn to sift through the ideas to run with and the ideas to leave alone. Then understand that even your deep vetting system may miss something and you may fail anyway – and that is okay. As long as you assess your steps, assume the appropriate amount of accountability, and learn from it – it’s a stepping stone, not a failure.

Unruly Women Collective was founded for the of purpose of putting a support system in place for those weak moments and when things become difficult. As business owners, you’d normally be alone, no camaraderie, no team meetings, and no one to say ‘keep going’ when you need to hear it the most. I’m proud to say we’ve been able to mitigate that and created something beautiful in its place.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In terms of the city, I have to say I am a true Holly Springs local and could find plenty to keep us busy just in our area. I would eat at Pimiento Tea Room and at have a drink at Nightingale Rooftop Bar. We might even cruise over to Salem Street in Apex and eat at Scratch Kitchen then have some dessert and an espresso martini at Neat & Sweet. More than any of those things, anybody coming to visit me will end up on a hike. Whether its a quick run out to Raven Rock State Park, or a longer drive – no one spends a week in North Carolina with me and doesn’t see some of the best views and waterfalls our state has to offer. The trip would be a waste. Most importantly, they need to attend an Unruly Women Collective gathering and have the best time of their lives.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to dedicate this Shoutout to the amazing women who are a part of the Unruly Women Collective. They have helped me grow personally and professionally. Without them, the collective would not have grown into the dynamic brand it is today and surely not as quickly as it did. There are far too many to name, but critical members of the collective like Amelia Hosine with House of Branding, Stephanie Lee with Triangle Twirl, Mariah with thegoodbeautycollective, and Tamara Gibson with Querencia Creative are just a handful of the people I consider game changers for our organization and my personal journey.
