Meet John L. Jones | Licensed General Contractor

We had the good fortune of connecting with John L. Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John L., what is the most important factor behind your success?
Happy Clients, We focus on the client as remodeling is a service to the them and their family. It is going to disrupt there life during the process. So we try to make it a smooth as we can. With that focus it has made us look at the way it can be done to see how we can lesson their frustration with work being done in their house. It starts with our SOP’s (standard operating procedures). The paperwork is simple and clear so they know before the work starts what the finial look will be. Our tools are super organized so time isn’t wasted on looking for what is needed, in turn getting the project finished faster. Even the brand of tools we use has the highest dust collection on the market to keep the house cleaner and less time to clean up. Client feedback continues to help us make changes to have happy clients. Happy clients use us on multiple jobs and refer us to their family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up around manufacturing and working in large facilities. Remodeling was a hobby and did a lot of volunteer work. There was a learning curve to change to making it a career. It took many hours to gain the knowledge that I have now. Still continually taking classes and trying to learn something everyday. It’s an honor when other colleagues and suppliers call me to ask for advice. A homeowner called me, He told me that he went to multiple vendors and asked them about a complicated remodel. He told me that they all referred him to call my company as we had the skill and knowledge to handle the project.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Starting off the day with brunch at Rosewater Kitchen & Bar in North Hills. Following with a stroll thru the North Carolina Museum of Art before heading towards Cary. First stop in Cary would be to see the beautiful new downtown park. As we make our way back towards Raleigh the second stop is Fenton to do a little retail therapy at the shops. Taking a break at Superica for a drink while watching the families play in the courtyard in front of the theater. From there we would make our way downtown Raleigh for dinner at Poole’s Diner to enjoy locally sourced food. Having to try the famous macaroni au gratin and if in season one of my many favorites the watermelon salad with avocado, basil, chevre, and sweet onion vinaigrette. Finishing the evening at WRAL’s last two years wining best cocktails Revival 1869 on Main st. Clayton to have custom made drinks and on a Saturday night they have live Jazz music.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people that I am very grateful for their training, mentoring, and guidance in my life. Here are just a couple that have helped me on my journey. Jim Nicholson, who was a contractor in Cary, helped me get my General Contracting license along with helping me improve how to do the biding process. Paul Akers and his books “2 Second Lean” and “Banish Sloppiness”. He has made me think about how I can give a better product to the client and continuous improvement. We use many of his companies tools and products on our jobs. What I have learned from his podcasts and app has helped me to focus on the client and making them happy.
