We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Gainey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, how do you think about risk?
I’ve always considered myself a risk taker—no risk, no reward. Stepping into the nail industry was a big leap outside of my comfort zone. I was 32 at the time, older than most in my class, but that didn’t hold me back. In fact, I was one of the most advanced because I had been practicing on my own and had always had a natural artistic ability. Taking risks has played a major role in my life and career. While some risks have led to challenges and hard lessons, I don’t regret them. They’ve taught me a lot about myself and life.

For example, I’ve traveled to faraway places on my own—places no one in my family had ever been to and that they even warned me against. But I knew I’d regret not going. Those experiences helped me grow and made it easier to embrace a new career path at an older age. Taking those risks, both in travel and in my career, has shaped who I am today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Each nail artist brings something unique to the table, and my niche lies in creating intricate designs on tiny surfaces. I specialize in drawing detailed cartoon-like images on nails, which sets me apart and allows me to offer personalized, creative nail art that truly stands out. It’s not always easy—sometimes I try new designs or trends that don’t come out right on the first attempt, and I have to start over. But I’m persistent and will keep at it until I achieve the look I’m after.

I got to where I am today by never letting go of my dream of becoming a nail tech. I’ve wanted to do nails since I was 20, but the opportunity didn’t come until I was 32. Perseverance, patience, and passion kept that dream alive. It wasn’t an easy journey, but I was determined and hungry enough to push through the challenges. I overcame obstacles by remembering my “why” and staying focused on my goals.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is that while the journey may feel difficult at times, it’s not forever—and sometimes you have to take that journey alone.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I’m passionate about bringing art to life in the most personal way possible—on nails. My journey as a nail artist is rooted in creativity, persistence, and a love for detail. I specialize in creating intricate, hand-drawn designs that reflect my clients’ personalities and make them feel uniquely seen. But my brand goes beyond nail art—it’s about building a comfortable, welcoming space where clients feel heard, valued, and cared for. What sets me apart is my commitment to quality, both in my art and the experience I provide. Every client I work with gets my full attention, a customized experience, and a reflection of their individuality through my designs.

At the heart of my brand is a belief in creativity, compassion, and making people feel good about themselves, both inside and out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom deserves all the credit and recognition in my story. She has shown more courage and determination than anyone I know and is the epitome of selflessness. As a mentor, encourager, and compassionate leader, she embodies empathy, gives grace when it’s needed most, and coaches others through life’s challenges. She’s the go-to person in our family for advice on everything—life, careers, parenting, and more. Despite her own needs, she continues to show up for everyone without hesitation.

She is our family’s biggest cheerleader, always standing by those who fight for what’s right. Even in her later years, she never stops growing, learning, and exploring new things—a quality I deeply admire. She is the woman I aspire to be—calm, soothing, and steadfast. She has a powerful presence and I wouldn’t have the resources and successes I have today without her unwavering support and sacrifices. It’s all thanks to her—and God!”
