Meet Destiny Henderson | Makeup Artist & Business Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Henderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiny, what role has risk played in your life or career?
If there is no risk, there is no reward. Everything major accomplishment or discovery came at the hands of someone deciding to take a risk and go for it. I wouldn’t be here today without risks. Entrepreneurship everyday is a risk. There is no paycheck, PTO, benefit package, severance package, or anything. Just you, your dream, hard work, and God. Do it no matter what!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a makeup artist “Real Queen Beats” and I have also launched my consulting/assistance business “DH Executives”. My passion for makeup has put me in many rooms and I’ve been able to learn so much about the business and how it is ran. I have a passion for helping people see the beauty in themselves in the work that they do. I believe a little organization goes a long way. So I try to make sure my clients at the very least can have an easy, hassle-free experience with me. Whether you are in my chair for a beat or you are working with me on your business, I want your experience with me to be one of those that helps you think less and dream more. Business is not easy. This is my first full year as an entrepreneur. So for the first time I have not been relying on a check. Just me, my dreams, hard work, and a prayer. God has been faithful, but it has not been easy navigating the uncertainties. However, I have learned to trust in God and believe in the assignment He has placed you on. No matter what the numbers or bookings look like, there is always someone watching. At the right moment, in God’s perfect timing your opportunity will come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is such a great question! So we would definitely do Sunday brunch at “It’s A Southern Thing” in downtown Durham. We could also visit “Boxcar” and “Slush” while navigating downtown after mimosas!
Monday: Let’s visit the Durham library! It has so many free resources for business owners and students. Luckily, my bestie is an entrepreneur like me so we can spend the day working there!
Tuesday: We can visit “Nest Raleigh” which is another coworking space that I love!
Wednesday: Let’s switch up the vibe and work at “The Goat”. They have good drinks and the tables are very spacious if you’d like to get some work done there!
Thursday: Let’s visit Counting House in downtown Durham. I recommend the short rib. They have an art gallery and a vintage bank vault that you can visit!
Friday: Let’s visit Glasshouse Kitchen. This restaurant is sooooo cute!
Saturday: Mulino’s for dinner!!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is a book called “We Should All Be Millionaires” by Rachel Rodgers that was gifted to me on my birthday by my client/friend, Angel. This book single handedly changed my life and gave me the courage I needed to take the jump into entrepreneurship. The book talks about our mental blocks and systematic challenges that people of color face in regards to making money and having thriving businesses. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is either just starting their entrepreneurial journey or is desiring to start it!
