We had the good fortune of connecting with Darinesha Anntoinette Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darinesha Anntoinette, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I’ve never believed in the words “give up” although it is an easy thing to say, it’s not always the easiest thing to do. Looking forward to the future of what I’ve promised myself has always kept me from giving up. I give myself something to look forward to everyday.. No matter what I’ve encountered in the past, I’ve found it easy to look forward than backwards. That’s the only thing I can control. I’ve gained strength from not giving up on myself and my dreams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My artistry is very unique to me. What sets me apart from most is the way I can visualize exactly how I want the outcome of my creations to look. I’m always determined to make it happen no matter how long the process may be. I’m very passionate and patient with my visions. I’m proud of how far I’ve came because Ive learned from my mistakes and I know that while creating art, it will never Be perfect! However, the joy of it all goes into the hard work that makes the journey worth it once the masterpiece is done! Over the last 4 years I’ve grown to love the art of curating events from scratch, it is far from a easy assignment however I’ve learned to take my time and go to God for guidance with every step I take closer to showtime. I’ve learned that In this industry you will never be able to please everyone, as long as you do your best; you’ve done plenty. You take your lessons and add it to the next show every single time, that’s how you become successful. I plan to grow as an Event Director and curate events for well known artist one day! My goal is to give people an experience that they will never forget, making them feel as if they’ve found a home with my events. I can’t wait to share my journey along the way!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow this is a great question! So I love hosting people and showing them a good time.
First off I like to give people a mix of excitement and relaxation, it give a nice balance when visiting somewhere new.
First spot would be to experience Lake Johnson Park, it’s one of my absolute favorite walking spots, I get all of my best thinking done there. Because of my love for views I would definitely have to stop at one of Raleigh’s rooftop Bars! My favorite is the Willard V Rooftop Bar, it’s classy and give a very homey vibe.
We would have to stop by some of Raleigh’s live art museums- one of my favorite to visit for inspiration is Art Space. It’s an art museum combined with artist workshops, it’s a beautiful thing to see artist in person working hard on their creations! Last but not least I love to have a good time I would take them to Tjs Night Club or Watts and Ward for a good clean time. I’ve always been an old soul, those 2 places always gives me the feeling that I’m looking for. Just a good time!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Brother. Darryl Johnson Jr.
We used to have “motivational Mondays” every Monday. He would call me and discuss what it took to be successful. Although he was always hard on me, he always believed in my abilities and didn’t expect any less out of me than greatness. Darryl is a natural leader in any community he chooses to be apart of, I follow in his footsteps to lead the right way when it comes to representing myself in my journey in entrepreneurship.
