Meet DACIA ZIMMER | Mobile Coffee trailer barista and owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with DACIA ZIMMER and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DACIA, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
The number 1 question I get asked is do you have a brick and mortar or will you be opening one? The original answer was one day, now it’s maybe and I’ll tell you why. Having a brick and mortar means you have to always be at work on the days you are open or you have to hire a team to work. You have to trust that team will show up to work and if they don’t, you have to be available if you can’t find a replacement.
Right now I have the flexibility to choose when I want to work and where I want to set up my mobile coffee trailer. I love this because it enables me to take trips and visit family, which is so important for balance in your life. If you are constantly working, you don’t have time for fun. FUN is why I started my business and it continues to bring me joy.
My partner and I work hard to play hard and we wouldn’t change it. Now, that’s not to say if an opportunity arose that was too good to pass up we wouldn’t take it…just right now it’s not in the cards.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Building the trailer from the shell it was to the trailer it is today took over 9 months of work. Because it’s an old trailer, it takes monthly maintenance and cleaning to make sure it looks good for events.
I am most excited when people recognize us when we are out and yell “cool beans” and tell us how much they love our coffee. It helps to validate our product and all the years of work we put into perfecting our recipes. We are always adding new items to the menu so you can try something new and our customers love it.
Some challenges are people not liking a drink and bringing it back, it happens rarely, but it will happen from time to time. Sometimes it’s a simple fix like adding more sugar or it may come down to a refund. We would rather have happy guests and refund their drink than unhappy.
We are “Cool Beans” because we are laid back and happy and treat others the way we want to be treated. Always be kind, caring, and happy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d suggest checking out “thingstodowilmington” for the best places to visit here in Wilmington, NC.
We would start our adventure at Brunches for breakfast and mimosas then head over to the loop at Wrightsville Beach for some walking and fun at the beach. Lunch would be an ahi tuna bowl from Zekes and a walk back to the car to head out on our evening adventure downtown. I would take my bestie on a bar crawl downtown and finish the evening at a rooftop bar at Embassy Suites to watch the sunset over the river.
Throughout the week we would go visit the battleship NC, enjoy a luxury picnic at the park with Coastal Picnic Wilmington, try our hand at axe throwing, escape room fun, and try out some of the locally owned restaurants throughout town.
A must try restaurant is called Oceanic where you can dine on a pier over the ocean. After you dine you can stroll on the beach before heading to the south end to watch the sun set over the water.
There are a ton of farmer’s markets and historic buildings you can visit throughout the week. There’s even a fun historic walking tour that hosts a scavenger hunt through the city. From live music to a bout tour on the water, there’s always something fun happening in Wilmington all year round.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner deserves a huge shout out for supporting my dream from the begining and helping me at big events. Johnathan is not only my best friend, fiance, and business partner, he is the handyman and carpenter for building and updating the trailer.
If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have my business today. He found a great opportunity to renovate an old rv trailer into our Cool Beans Trailer. I was down on my luck during the pandemic and he said let’s spend our time building something positive. And so we did! Now we have a successful business and it continues to grow each year. I am so excited to see what the future holds and what events lie ahead with this amazing man of mine.
