We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela | The Cookie Lady Blakeney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela | The Cookie Lady, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was deeply rooted in my desire to be more present for my son and my family. I wanted the flexibility to show up for the moments that matter most—school events, family dinners, and the everyday little things. At the same time, I’ve always had a passion for creating and sharing what I love with others, so turning that into a business felt natural. It was about building something of my own that not only supported my family but also reflected who I am.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My “art” comes in the form of cookies—small-batch, bold-flavored, nostalgic treats that bring joy with every bite. What sets my brand apart is the intention behind every cookie. I’m not just baking—I’m telling stories through flavor, creating comfort, and delivering memories people didn’t know they were missing. Every flavor has a purpose, and every detail—from packaging to presentation—is infused with personality.

What I’m most proud of is how this business has grown from a passion into something that supports my family and connects with people in such a personal way. Seeing customers light up over a cookie or tell me it reminds them of home—that never gets old.

The journey here hasn’t been easy. There were late nights, self-doubt, financial risks, and learning curves at every turn. But I pushed through with grit, faith, and a deep sense of purpose. I had to remind myself often why I started—to be present for my family and to build something that’s mine. I’ve learned that consistency beats perfection, that community is everything, and that you can’t be afraid to bet on yourself.

What I want the world to know is this: my brand isn’t just about cookies. It’s about heart. It’s about showing up, creating joy in the everyday, and proving that with vision and work, you really can turn a dream into something real. My favorite quote is “I’m not the competition, I’m the proof”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1: We’d start the trip off with some wings from City Grill Wings—can’t go wrong with a good crispy wing to set the tone. After that, we’d ride around the city a bit, check out some murals, and vibe out.

Day 2: I’d invite them into my kitchen and let them experience the heart of what I do—fresh cookies, good music, lots of laughs, and maybe even a little baking lesson. Then we’d relax for the night with takeout and a movie.

Day 3: Time to eat good—so we’d head to Flavors by Falisa. Her food always hits and it’s one of those plates where you know the meal was made with love. After that, maybe swing by a local pop-up or vendor event if there’s one going on.

Day 4: We’d stop by The Propst, one of those home-based gems you only know about if you’re tapped in. Whether it’s the fried fish, chicken wraps, or their plates, it’s always seasoned and satisfying. It’s the kind of food that makes you feel like family.

Day 5: We’d do a mini food tour—grab a little something from each of my favorite local food spots and just enjoy the ride. I’d also show them the areas and people that inspire me creatively and in business.

Day 6: A slower day—we’d bake something together, maybe one of my signature cookie recipes, and have a cozy day in catching up and relaxing.

Day 7: A big farewell cookout, nothing like a dope backyard vibe, good music, great food. Just soaking in the moment before they leave.

Even though I’m usually in grind mode, it would be so worth it to slow down and share my favorite local gems with someone I care about. Plus, it’s a reminder that there’s so much to enjoy right here in our own backyard.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely — I have to give the biggest shoutout to my husband. He’s believed in me from the very beginning, even when I had doubts myself. He not only encouraged me to take the leap, but he also invested in my dream and reminded me of my potential when things felt uncertain. His support—emotionally, mentally, and financially—has been the backbone of this journey, and I’m endlessly grateful for the way he continues to stand beside me.
