We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela @queencityvoyager and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
@queencityvoyager was born as an extension of what I was already doing on my personal social media pages. Every time I traveled somewhere or tried something new in the Charlotte area (a restaurant, hiking trail, art installation, candle-pouring class, museum, pickleball court, etc,) I liked to post a few photos and notes to let my friends know which things I enjoyed and recommended. One day my friend Robin and I were chatting over bubbles (we were both bridesmaids in a friend’s wedding) and she encouraged me to make it official by starting a traveler/foodie blog! She was living in San Diego at the time and was sharing local restaurants on her Instagram account. Fortunately for me she has since moved to Charlotte and is now @_charlottefoodie!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started @queencityvoyager because I thought it would be fun – and it absolutely is – but several things have surprised me along the way. When I started dabbling in photography, I didn’t expect how much satisfaction would come from starting with an idea about how an image should look and taking that idea on a journey to a finished product. I underestimated the strong community-building effect of blogging and certainly did not expect to make several amazing “IRL” friends along the way!
Most importantly, this experience has taught me to set aside a little time each day for a creative outlet. I don’t think every passion project in your life needs to grow into a money-making side hustle. There are some folks who turn the work they do in the influencer space into a lucrative career, and I think that’s great! But it’s not for everyone. For me, once a dollar amount is assigned to a task, I view it as work. I do it for the love of the game. And for the tacos.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ll have to direct you to the ‘gram for this one. Scroll through @queencityvoyager for allllll of my detailed recommendations! 😉
Life comes at you pretty fast, so making time for fun – traveling, eating, hiking, kayaking, skiing, scuba diving, experiencing art, taking a class on the history of wine, axe-throwing, slogging, curling, birding, etc – takes a significant amount of forward thinking. Who among us hasn’t looked up after putting her nose to the grindstone for a busy work week and realized she made progress on her to-do list but didn’t scratch the surface of her want-do-to list? When life is busy (and when is it not?) creating space for the things that bring us joy requires scheduling – planning ahead is crucial. My favorite thing to hear from my followers is that they were able to try a new experience because the behind-the-scenes research was already done and all they had to do was pick a date on the calendar.
