Meet Andrew James | Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew James and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, why did you pursue a creative career?
For as long as I can remember, art has been a central part of my life. Some of my fondest childhood memories are filled with the sounds of my grandmother composing on the piano, my mother designing beautiful floral arrangements as she built her dream business, and my father crafting furniture for our home. In many ways, creativity was woven into every corner of my upbringing. Instead of playing with toys or watching VHS tapes, I gravitated toward a pencil and paper, always encouraged to think creatively and explore new interests.
For me, pursuing a creative career was always the ultimate goal. I explored many artistic mediums throughout my early years before ultimately discovering photography at the young age of fourteen. Nearly a decade later, I can’t imagine my life without it. Image-making is a process I feel deeply connected to—photography is my escape and a way to express myself meaningfully when words fall short.
I feel immense gratitude for the opportunity to share something I love so dearly with all of my clients. I can’t imagine a more fulfilling life than one spent creating and connecting with so many wonderful people.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is deeply rooted in creating timeless, modern imagery that resonates with authenticity and emotion. What sets Andrew David Photography apart is a focus on docu-torial image-making—a seamless blend of documentary and editorial photography. My approach is to capture work that is not only visually stunning but also reflective of the depth and authenticity of each moment. Rather than creating moments, I consider myself a curator. While I guide my couples into the best light and set the stage for beautiful imagery, I allow the moments to unfold naturally, capturing them as they truly are.
What I’m most proud of is the journey that led me back to photography. After facing imposter syndrome and anxiety, I rediscovered my passion for this art form in 2024. Relaunching my business was a leap of faith, but it reminded me why I fell in love with photography in the first place: the ability to connect with people on a deep and meaningful level.
Getting to where I am today hasn’t been easy. Like many creatives, I’ve faced moments of doubt, comparison, and uncertainty. But I’ve learned to embrace change and trust in the process of growth. The artist I was five years ago is not the artist I am today, and I see that as a strength. Each challenge taught me to stay open, take one step at a time, and believe that every effort contributes to something bigger.
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is the importance of collaboration and community. Supporting other creatives and learning from their journeys has been instrumental in shaping my own. I truly believe that we grow stronger when we uplift and inspire one another, and that philosophy is at the center of my brand.
At its core, Andrew David Photography is about creating imagery that captures the essence of modern love and authentic connection. My mission is to document moments as they naturally unfold—moments filled with genuine emotion and beauty—while elevating them with a timeless, editorial touch. This work isn’t just about photography for me; it’s about building meaningful relationships and preserving stories in a way that feels both honest and artful.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d take them to some of my favorite spots. We’d start with a coffee at Badin Coffee, the perfect place to relax and catch up. Then, we’d head to Morrow Mountain State Park for a hike and to take in the stunning views of the Uwharrie Mountains and Lake Tillery. A visit to Lake Tillery is a must, where we could spend time on the water—whether boating or just soaking in the peaceful surroundings. Afterward, we’d check out the local thrift shops for some fun finds, and of course, wrap up the day with a delicious dinner at one of the many local uptown restaurants.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe my success to many people in my life. To my parents, for instilling a creative spark in me from a young age, showing me that I can forge my own path in life, and teaching me to embrace opportunities, no matter how ambitious, without fear of failure. To my friends, for their unwavering support from the beginning and for helping me grow into a more compassionate person. And finally, to my small-town community of Wadesboro, North Carolina, for becoming my first clients and believing in me and my art.
