We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amber, how does your business help the community?
I co-founded Select Date Society after surviving a sudden cardiac arrest. In 2020, my heart suddenly stopped while I was driving. I lost consciousness and drove into a brick home. Thankfully, no one else was injured in the accident. My husband pulled me from the smoking vehicle and a good Samaritan started CPR. First responders arrived within minutes and used a defibrillator to restart my heart. That incident was the catalyst to Sandra Myers and I starting our business. We realized that life was too short to put off our dreams! From the very beginning, we committed to giving a percentage of our company’s profits to the American Heart Association. We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to the organization that has helped so many Americans lead healthier, longer lives. We proudly tell our matchmaking clients that we will take care of their hearts and a portion of their membership fee will take care of someone else’s heart!

What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve been a professional matchmaker since 1998 and Sandra Myers, my co-founder, has been a professional matchmaker since 1996. We were both frustrated with the lack of client care at the larger firms we had worked at, and we often talked about how we could do it better if we owned the business. After we both spent over 20 years working for someone else, we decided to start our own firm. Building a business from the ground up is full of challenges, but we knew that if we took care of our clients, they would take care of us. Our philosophy worked! We offered our clients the highest level of service, with genuine care and concern, and we delivered results for them. This led to our happy clients referring us to their single friends and our business has been consistently growing year over year.

Select Date Society is a high-end matchmaking firm representing high net worth singles throughout the United States. Our clients are C-Suite executives, billionaires, and entrepreneurs. We have the privilege of working with fascinating clients who are genuinely ready for love. It is truly an honor to be able to do this work and curate meaningful connections that lead to lasting relationships! This type of business can only be successful by taking care of people and staying laser focused on results. We have been able to do that and it has paid off.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start by taking a historical city tour of Charlotte by golf cart! There are a couple of these tours available, and I think it’s the best way to get familiar with the city when the weather is nice. These tours often center around holidays, which makes it even more fun. Halloween tours have a spooky theme, or we could check out the holiday lights during the winter months. Next, we would head to Angeline’s for dinner to enjoy great wine and pasta.

On the weekend we would start with brunch at The Crunkleton to enjoy Expresso Martinis and Bloody Marys with their delicious French toast! Then we would head to Raleigh to visit museums and shop! During the winter months, we would definitely check out the Chinese Lantern Festival in Cary.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to shoutout all the wonderful matchmakers out there! Our business would not be successful without the amazing network of matchmakers and love industry professionals that we collaborate with! Matchmaking is a relationship business in the sense that we are literally getting our clients into relationships, but we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the great relationships we have built with other matchmakers! We are members of the Matchmakers Alliance and certified by The Global Love Institute, the two trade industry groups in the matchmaking industry. We go to conferences every year to network, connect, and learn with amazing love industry professionals from all over the world!
