Jessica Boone | Creative Consultant | Graphic Designer | Brand Advisor

One of my favorite quotes is “Your journey has molded you for your greater good, and it was exactly what it needed to be. Don’t think you’ve lost time. There is no short-cutting to life. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the now. And now is right on time.”- Asha Tyson Read more>>

Sheila J Hall | Artist/Surface Designer/Educator

As a parent of two adult business owners, I feel my greatest impact was instilling in them the confidence to set out on their own journey doing what they love. By seeing me and my husband always strive to excell at our jobs and launch our own businesses as we raised them taught them anything was possible with hard work. They are both self employed and their choices impact and others. My oldest owns a Dances Speaks Performing Arts Academy and serves an under served community of brown ballerinas in San Deigo. My son is a barber and does community service to those who need a free hair cut and a fresh start. He is raising his family in Anchorage Alaska. Read more>>

Joshua Gajownik | The Creative Office of Joshua Gajownik

When I became a fully independent designer I asked myself how I want to spend my days. I really considered each individual day instead of a year or decade or career, and what that 8 hours of work each day could be. I knew I didn’t want to spend my entire day sitting behind a computer screen. So I began to pursue projects with tactility be that print design or branded environments. I’m now in my 20th year as a designer. Fourteen of those I’ve been independent, making my niche designing brands and spaces for small and medium business. I am so fortunate to work with people who have vision, an appreciation for creativity, and who value me not as a service provider but as a creative partner in their business. I get to help bring their dream to life by focusing on personality, craft, and longevity. In a growing area like the Triangle it is crucial that we retain parts of our self but also welcome new ideas and ways of doing. Read more>>

Anna Vaughn Kincheloe | Fine Artist

I believe what’s contributed to any success I’ve had is recognizing that the work I do mostly revolves around relationships. There is of course the relationship between the elements and principles of design in creating art, but I think what’s more significant is the is the overlapping relationship between the artist, the work and the viewer. I care about the connection another viewer may experience with what I create, and therefore, in some way, I get to have a relationship with them because of it. Creation is about connection, and I think we all yearn to connect with one another. Read more>>

Eva Marie Everson | CEO, Word Weavers International & CBA Bestselling Author

Honesty. Whether it is from me or directed at me, the answer is honesty. If I can trust you . . . and you can trust me . . . then this is a foundation we can always grow on. No matter what happens and in which direction we go, I know you have my back and you know I have yours. I believe this is what Jesus meant, in part, when He said that we are to love our neighbor as ourself. Read more>>

Jordan Sokel | Band leader for Pressing Strings

I was in college at the time and just feeling really tired and uninspired with what I was studying. I was just beginning to gig a lot and I realized that the thing that came easiest to me and what inspired me most was music and it was the clearest path for me to make a steady living while not sacrificing my freedom of choice and independence. I knew it was a very competitive and famously tough industry to navigate and thrive in but to me the pro’s have always outweighed the cons. Read more>>

Jelena Kostic | Full Time Artist, Full Time NICU Nurse

I think of myself as a full time nurse and full time artist, (I am so lucky to have two passions I can dedicate my life to) but how that looks from the outside definitely ebbs and flows! I have struggled in the past with comparing how my artistic venture and my small business looks compared to the artists around me, both locally and on social media. Ultimately where I am at right now is making peace with how my heart and mind need the space to leap into creativity and creating naturally, it can’t be forced. That’s why I’ll never move to “full time artist” and leave nursing, because the pressure of art being my sole “work” would render me unable to create freely. I recognize this is a very privileged place to be in, and I am so grateful that both my careers have the flexibility and room to be whatever I want from them in any particular day/week/month. This really allows me to create balance in my life when it comes to other areas like my family, self care and hobbies! Read more>>
