Meet Wendy Holland | Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always known that I wanted to be a business owner. I’m a cosmetologist and I work as a hairstylist. I always worked for other companies like JcPenny Salon, Smartstyle, and Ulta Beauty. Those are great places to work however after a while you eventually want to be able to work for yourself. I wanted to have more control over my schedule and be able to keep 100% of what I made versus having to give a percentage to another company. So that was the start/thought process of wanting to go into business for myself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Selfishly Spoiled Hair Studio is a salon where you can spoil yourself with different hair services. We provide a variety of hair services. However, we specialize in healthy hair and silk presses. We provide various services (silk presses, hair color, relaxers, extensions, natural styling, etc.) and most stylists don’t anymore. So that would be one of the ways we are set apart.

So far, I am proud of what we have accomplished thus far. We opened in late February 2022 and have gained new clientele and turned most of them into repeat clients. This journey definitely hasn’t been easy. However, when you have a true goal and won’t settle for less you will learn how to overcome and keep going despite how hard it is.

Know that, I love what I do, I enjoy serving others, and helping people feel better. Thats the main goal and it’s just the beginning.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would first do a good brunch. I love Another Broken Egg(Morrisville) and Scratch Kitchen(Apex).

Fenton Cary is a new and nice area to do a little shopping and eating. They also have a nice dine in movie theater that is awesome.

Downtown Raleigh and Durham is a good place to go for quick eats and drinks.

There are a ton of activities like Drive Shack, museums, festivals, comedy shows, music events, etc….

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband has been a tremendous help over the past year and a half. He has definitely supported me and helped with getting my salon up and running. Not to mention is doing an amazing job with supporting me in expanding.
