We had the good fortune of connecting with Velmy Trinidad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Velmy, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
My name is Velmy Liz Trinidad, I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I started taking dance classes at a very young age (ballet, jazz, Spanish dance, among others). My whole life in Puerto Rico was surrounded by dance, different genres, and I think that has led me in part to be the person I am today. I love to dance, I love teaching others to dance and to enjoy this art.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As I mentioned before, I love dancing, I love teaching and being on stage. At some point in my life I thought I would never dance again, but my passion for it is so great that I was able to offer classes again. It was not easy, there were not many people interested in Flamenco classes, but little by little we managed to grow and reach more people.

Two years ago we officially became the Flamenco Dance Program. With classes for all ages and levels, community performances and professions.

Never stop pursuing your dreams, no matter how long it takes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take him to Greensboro Downtown Park to walk and have coffee. Another place I really like would be Country Park. For lunch I could take him to one of the restaurants located downtown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people I have to thank, without their support and trust I would not be the person I am today. Since I arrived in Greensboro I have met so many wonderful people and thanks to them the Flamenco Dance Program exists today. So to all of you who are part of this program or have been at some point, thank you.
