We had the good fortune of connecting with Varsha Chawla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am an ex-systems engineer and worked in the tech industry for over 17 years. My degrees are in Computer Science and Business (MBA) and have nothing to do with wellness! It took many years of experimenting with recipes, ingredients, and learning how to properly feed my boys, along with some nagging personal health issues to convince me to become a certified holistic health coach. I went back to nutrition school so I could help others heal their bodies holistically, in the same way I have. You can read about my full healing journey here: https://wellandgreat.com/about/. After coaching for a while, I decided to make the leap into the world of entrepreneurship and I have a product line with three functional products to help with energy and sleep coming out this year.

I have spent over a year researching ingredients, ensuring that they are organic, of the highest quality, and in the right amounts that I would want to be putting in my own body. As we age and endure hormonal shifts from postpartum all the way to perimenopause and menopause, our bodies need more support. My product line is designed to help women with the energy and sleep support we all crave, while satisfying our taste buds so that you’re not just swallowing another supplement pill. Glim Wellness is for those who want real and organic nourishment.

I have always taken a content-first approach when it comes to coaching (and now product development) and though it’s a lot of work, I do believe it’s what works best. I share a ton of wellness insights on my blog: https://wellandgreat.com/blog/, so be sure to check that out as well!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love food and wellness, so a combination of those two would be key if you’re visiting the Raleigh-Durham area!

Breakfast: La Farm – a modern day boulangerie with locations in Cary and Raleigh. It’s a favorite, but not very gluten-free friendly. Worth a visit.

Morning activity: I love staying active, so on a weekend day, you’ll find me running the American Tobacco Trail, which is an old train track converted into a running / walking / bike trail. You can’t go wrong with that or a stroll through Umstead Park. I also love Bond Park in Cary for a hike as well as Downtown Cary Park.

Lunch: In Cary, Di Fara Pizza is a must if you have an appreciation for authentic NY pizza. For a fancier lunch (and dinner), Herons at the Umstead hotel is a favorite. However, the real foodie gems are in Durham. I love the Viceroy for Indian food, Mother and Sons for Italian, Mateo for Tapas, Pizzeria Toro for crazy good pizza, M-Sushi for seafood, and Rue Cler for French food. You really can’t go wrong with any of those places.

Afternoon activity: The Umstead has an amazing spa, but Sauna House in Durham is a new spot that I’ve been meaning to check out. Be sure to take a stroll around downtown Durham first – it really is lovely at any time of the day and my favorite city in the Triangle area.

Evening activity: A show at DPAC would be amazing (after you eat dinner at one of the suggested lunch spots). I don’t drink, but Durham is also home to many amazing craft cocktail spots such as Alley 26 and Bar Virgile.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I never planned to start a coaching business or wellness company. Entrepreneurship wasn’t foreign to me, but I didn’t imagine myself taking that path. I’ve always loved structure, organization, and predictability—none of which come easily when you’re running your own show. But my husband, Anil, has been my biggest cheerleader and the person who’s nudged me to embrace the unknown. He’s encouraged me to figure things out on my own, while always offering support and wise advice along the way.

On the book front, Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo and Atomic Habits by James Clear have both played a big role in helping me level up—personally and professionally. They’ve been game changers in shifting my mindset and approach to growth.
