Meet Vanessia Johnson | Mother & CEO of Christian Clothing Brand

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessia Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessia, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
Hmmm a very important question! I would desire my legacy to be one that has inspired hope wrapped up in God’s love. It’s my desire to break the generational obstacle of poverty in my family. To be honest, my family has an ABUNDANCE of spiritual wealth but there has somewhat always been a “stronghold” financially. Don’t get me wrong God has always provided our needs but there’s been a lack of “overflow”. I truly believe that God is breaking me out the mold so I can show that you can love God and have life more abundantly (in this world and the world to come-as my grandma would say). It is my desire to leave generational wealth and healing for my children. They have watched me literally get everything I have “out the mud.” Especially my oldest daughter who’s now 21. However, my son also sees how hard his mom has worked and will continue to work for them. I want to be able to show other’s that no matter what your life journey has consisted of you can press forward for greater. Whether, you’ve experienced abuse (sexually, mentally, emotionally, physically), addiction, been a teen parent, single parent, divorcee, made any type of choices that you wish you could change those moments do NOT have to define you. You can use them to leverage your future. NEVER GIVE UP! I hope people always remember that I am truly Jesus’ Hypegirl a praiser for sure! One who loves Him unashamed and loves people wholeheartedly!
What should our readers know about your business?
Church Is My Club, LLC is a registered brand that is not only different by name, but I believe what also sets us apart is that we remain original, unique, and true to the mission. The mission is to “share Jesus one witness piece at a time.” Every single statement from the logo to our various statement pieces are godly inspired and reflects the Christian lifestyle. We want to continue to represent the Kingdom in the purest and most positive form all while doing it fashionably. Has it been easy to get to this point, absolutely not! I relaunched in 2021 and though it’s been a blessing it’s still a lot to balance a 9-5, family and various other obligations. Making sure that you have enough funds for business and trying to keep up with the ever-changing algorithms of social media and marketing can be a lot when you are working the business entirely by yourself. There’s a lot of times that I must encourage myself not to give up, especially when you know in your heart that you have an amazing product but it’s not quite where you know it will be. It’s a constant exercise of patience and being willing to learn along the way. Sometimes integrity causes you to take the long way but in doing so, it allows you to build something on a firm foundation that will last!
This brand is for the excited kingdom builder. It allows you to witness without speaking and gives you an opportunity to evangelize without saying a word. This brand has touched lives from the saved to the unsaved, young and the old and it’s those moments that keep me pushing. I’m putting it here as a “marker” that one day you will notice that the Church Is My Club movement has spread across the world. Keeping the excitement for Christ going and God used a girl from NC that just loved Him to do so!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Food: I’m a foodie at heart! So, for good food I’d have to recommend some soul food places like: Lee’s Kitchen (Jamaican) they have the best oxtails hands down or Jack’s Seafood for some amazing Soul Food. For more “southern food” you have a few sit-down places like Carolina BBQ for the Southern BBQ etc. If looking for something more “upscale” I would recommend Sullivan’s, Ruth Chris, J ‘Alexanders, Capital Grille & Perry’s just to name a few. Raleigh has some amazing food Trucks: There’s some food truck rodeos here in Raleigh and Durham as well. However, Waffleup is one that’s a must to stop by. Their chicken and waffles are amazing on the go! I’ve never had fried cauliflower until I ate there, and it was the chef’s kiss. For some amazing smoothies and healthy food on the go I’d recommend “Bear Good Fruit” it’s quality and amazing! For desserts: Unique Milkshakes via The Yard Milkshake Bar and Goodberry’s for great ice cream.
I don’t drink alcohol, so I don’t have any recommendations there.
Things to do: For the girls, there’s a new custom lipstick and gloss business I want to visit called Lip Print Beauty Bar (I’m a girl with full lips and they must stay on point). I’m not really a fan of bowling but I’d recommend Kings Bowling due to the food and ambiance. If looking for hands on experiences head to Safe and Sound Rugs for a rug tufting class where you can make your own unique rug. Golfing fun head to Topgolf. A little more daring check out the “The Crazy Axe” for axe throwing or do a fun “Escape Room” (there are various ones to choose from here if you love mystery.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a list of people but I have to name a few: First Giving Honor to God who is indeed the head of my Life (I had to throw that in there for my churchy fam).
My mom Evangelist Veronica Morgan & grandma Bishop Eloise Sessoms: they are the core reason as to why I love God like I do and have such drive and determination. They are also the reason I work with much excellence and integrity!
Rich Griffis, Rashaad Mcneil, Cashyra Toney, and Jocelyn Drawhorn: This was the core group of people that helped me from my logo to marketing materials and photo shoot when I first launched in 2014 and they are STILL supporting me to this day!
The Thompsons: They invested in this vision, believed in me and pushed me to relaunch my brand in 2021.
Bishop and Lady Mcnair and the MMCC Raleigh Family: They have supported, encouraged and made me realize that there is indeed more and it’s okay truly okay to honor God by going forth in purpose with CONFIDENCE!
My therapist: Michelle Chambers (healing is IMPORTANT in having clarity)
My family, friends, St John AHC & CIMC family who have rocked with and loved me OUT LOUD! I love you all so much!
Last by not least my BABIES: Alycia & Christian who serve as my WHY!
