Meet Valerie Remhoff | Specialized Kinesiologist and Reiki Master

We had the good fortune of connecting with Valerie Remhoff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valerie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business was less of a choice and more of the natural progression of an organic growth process. When I recognized that the career path I was on was not my path to fulfillment, I started revisiting the things that had always interested me that felt like a part of who I was. Circumstances and life events continued to push me in that direction. I began learning all I could and I fell in love with the work. Energy healing modalities can be incredibly life-changing for both the client and the practitioner. I experienced so much healing through my training and saw so many miraculous shifts in others that I could no longer imagine doing anything else with my life besides using these tools to help as many people as possible. My business, Butterfly Holistics, grew from my reconnection with my inner self and my love of helping others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Almost 20 years ago when I started this career, holistic healthcare was not something that most people knew about or went looking for. It still has a long way to go, but today at least most people have heard the word Reiki at one time or another and many more people are seeking out energy work to help meet their health and wellness goals. Back when I started, I got a lot of strange looks when people asked what I did. I realized that my first step needed to be educating potential clients on the benefits and efficacy of energy healing modalities. I found that giving people a way to experience some of the immediate results through quick demonstrations sparked their interest. So I created short classes and small group programs designed to introduce energy work in an approachable way. This allowed people to understand more about what to expect in a session and to get excited about the progress they could make. Education is still at the center of what I do. Whether in session or leading a class, I am consistently sharing simple techniques and tools that can make a profound difference in a person’s life. It makes me incredibly proud and happy to see my students moving on to open their own practices and my clients reaching goals they never thought they would achieve. I feel incredibly blessed to be able to take part in each and every one of their journeys.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends come to visit, it’s all about the time together. We usually plan just a couple things to do based on the interests of the person visiting and otherwise spend a lot of time just hanging out and catching up. Food plays a big part though, and there are lots of places close by that we love to share, like Thai Thai, OSHA, Bep, and Lovegrass Kitchen. Pimiento Tea Room is fun for lunch, and we also love it for Friday or Saturday evening when they have live music. Chef’s Palette in Cary is a favorite when we want to do it up a bit, and for dessert Asali is a must.
If we’re looking for a weekend activity, our local Holly Springs Farmer’s Market is great, and if we’re up for a bigger adventure, we always find some great treasures at the State Farmer’s Market in Raleigh.
When kids are visiting, Marbles is a great place to go. All the interactive exhibits give them lots of opportunities to explore and play. Of course if everyone is up for some fun, Frankie’s or Partee Shack will keep both the kids and the adults happy for hours!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I was reintroduced to energy work and the profound effect it has on healing, my first foray into learning was to read Donna Eden’s book Energy Medicine. Reading had never been my easiest path to learning as I am much more of an auditory learner, but I absorbed the information like a sponge and was inspired to learn more. That led me to seek out training courses in my area for modalities mentioned in the book. I still recommend Energy Medicine as a great way to spark an interest and an initial understanding of kinesiology and energy work as a whole.
