We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
From the very beginning, Bright Black positioned social impact as a priority. For us, it’s just as important as economic outcomes. As social entrepreneurs with a mission to honor the brilliance of Blackness, we’ve engaged in revenue sharing from our products since the company’s inception. This means that not only do we create products that are aligned with different social issues like voter registration or racial equity in the juvenile justice system, but we also donate anywhere from 10-50% of sales from our different products to organizations working on issues pertaining to racial justice. To date, we’ve donated almost $30K (cash and in kind) and we look forward to continuing these efforts!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bright Black is committed to creating thoughtfully handcrafted, high-quality products that honor the complexities and beauty of
Black Diaspora. Through artful scent storytelling and impeccable
artisanship, we aim to build a more racially just world by fostering
connection and leveraging business as a force for economic
and social impact.

We envision a world where the brilliance of Blackness is universally
recognized, embraced, and celebrated. We strive to use our
products as a platform for positive social change, creating economic
opportunities, and raising awareness about Black history and
culture, ultimately creating a lasting and meaningful impression.
