Meet Tara Coley | Vegan pastry chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Coley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to showcase how vegan desserts could be just as good if not better than traditional pastries! With that came a desire to source high-quality vegan ingredients, perfect my recipes, and start building my brand through social media and word of mouth.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hiiyah everyone! I operate a vegan bakery in the RTP area of North Carolina. I am most proud about my progress in the 7 months since I have been opened! I have seen the effects of word of mouth and joining a local farmers market that has tremendously helped me in obtaining customers. I got to where I am today by making a lot of mistakes (lol) and actually learning from them. My motto is always never back down from a challenge!
Since I was never taught how to bake anything vegan it was an extreme learning curve but without that push to want to learn, I do not think I would be as successful as I am today!
I want the world to know that supporting a small business is important, we are people’s sisters, mothers, sons, and fathers and the love that entrepreneurs put in their business should be felt by the community!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The most interesting places in North Carolina have always been food trucks and or small business kiosk stand! If my friend were to come and visit for drinks we would go to Alley Twenty Six (they have an amazing cocktail list!) for great wine we would check out Killer Queens and Brunello.
For food we would most definitely check out Pure Vegan Cafe, Elemental Gastropub and Fiction Kitchen
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my twin sister for believing in me and taking the leap with me to start my business. Also for her countless hours of listening to me talk about my business plan and how I am going to achieve it
