Meet Suvojit Mukherjee | Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Suvojit Mukherjee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Suvojit, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand or any other brand in the world is patience because things always don’t speed up at the start. A brand is like a seed. You have to nurture it and take care of it on a regular basis. Then only it will grow into a full tree.
My story is a practical example of the same. I am a professional model and en entrepreuner.
I started modeling professionally when I walked for an Indian traditional wear brand in Canada back in 2019. The fashion show was a hit and my modeling career kicked off. Soon, I got into an agency with lots of hopes and aspirations. But the pandemic started right after that, and it created a major slowdown. I did not quit, I kept on searching for work and did many collaboration photoshoots with different photographers to improve my portfolio. My first good break was being a cover boy for Devon and Lang- a line of undergarments. My career took off after doing that shoot. I got published in various internal magazines like GQ, Malvie, Edith, Hon, Volant, artofportait, 6xmagazine, etc., and also got the opportunity to walk for different brands for different international fashion shows.
I am an entrepreneur as well. I have my event planning organization Dipra Event Planners. We organize events. We have recently organized fashion shows and client parties. Business also requires a lot of time to flourish, and I am proud to say, I am still learning how to be successful.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a model, I always want to bring my best. I do ad shoots and commercials. In those, I always try to showcase the product in the best way possible which can bring happiness in the face of the product owner. That is the only thing that fills my heart with content and inspires me to perform better and better each day.
Modeling is not as rosy as it seems. There are different kinds of people in the fashion industry. The fashion industry can take you to the top and also can drop you down in the blink of an eye. There is a lot of favoritism and racism in the industry. It’s sad, but true. As a brown model, I have faced a lot of racism myself. As browns, we are not selected very often by fashion designers. I will say it bluntly, mostly fair-skinned people are preferred. Apart from racism, people also try to take advantage of your skills by making you work for them for free. I faced all of these issues myself, which has definitely helped me to grow. One thing I have learned is that, if you are a model, you need to be mentally very strong to deal with failures, disappointments, and criticism.
With regard to the event planning as well, I have faced a lot of rejections and criticism. Sometimes, everything becomes stagnant and it feels like giving up! Criticism and back-biting make me demotivated at times but then I think about the purpose why I started it, which inspires me to try again!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I stay in Calgary. Calgary is a natural playground known for its beautiful parks and big blue skies with bright sunshine. I would like to list down the places where I would like to take my friend.
1) Calgary Stampede – They don’t call Calgary Cowtown for anything. The same applies to “the greatest outdoor show on earth,” a nickname well-earned by the Calgary Stampede. This annual citywide phenomenon is a huge part of Calgary’s identity and is not to be missed each July. So if they come in July, Stampede will be the topmost place-to-go in the list.
2)Nose Hill Park – Nose Hill Park is a delightfully wild open area northwest of town and one of North America’s largest urban parks. We can hike or bike extensive trails covering 11 square kilometers and pause for a picnic with a view.
3) Dinosaur Provincial Park – We can find Dinosaur fossils in the unusual badlands of this UNESCO World Heritage Site which is about two-and-a-half hours outside Calgary near Brooks. Archaeologists have unearthed some 300 fossils here, making it the world’s biggest source of Cretaceous fossils.
4) Prince’s Island Park – Prince’s Island Park is a green oasis on the Bow River where we can stroll, cycle, paddle, ski, or go to an outdoor play or concert. Popular celebrations happen in the park, including the Calgary Folk Festival and Canada Day events.
5) Food – For food, we would like to have Chinese food at Silver Dragon Restaurant who knows how to craft a memorable dining experience. Shrimp toast, oyster sauce fried chicken, and Peking duck are my favorites there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my parents, my mother, and my father. My mother and father are my biggest inspirations. Our family is quite traditional and acting/modeling is considered taboo, but my parents always encouraged me in everything. No one ever, in my family tree, has ventured into acting or modeling. I am successful today only because of my parents’ encouragement.
