Meet Shannon Green | SVP, Resource Development

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, what do you attribute your success to?
An important factor behind the success of Habitat Charlotte Region is finding a way to say “yes”. We are confidently guided by our mission and the commitment to help families access affordable homeownership. Sometimes it makes sense for us to take the lead, and on other projects we might be a collaborator. We want to be in a position to help as many families as possible so it’s important to be innovative, nimble, and connected.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve spent the last 22 years in the non-profit sector and I’m committed to working for children and families. That’s why Habitat for Humanity is such a great fit for me personally. Every day, we are inspired to build homes, community and hope, and the work is so important, so tangible. Seeing so many people come together —our partner families, staff, volunteers, donors–is magical.
I didn’t set out to have a career in non-profit work, but I can see how a lot of my life experience and choices led me to where I am today. The most important lesson I’ve learned is that all businesses are about the relationships, understanding the people behind the work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s so much to do in the metro Charlotte region! I always suggest a walking food tour for anyone coming to town. It is a great way to get to know the city and try many different spots. Some of my favorite restaurants are Copper, Lang Van, Rooster’s, and New Zealand Cafe. For some real local flavor I like to visit Pinky’s, Midwood Smokehouse, and Amelie’s (oh that salted caramel brownie!).
For drinks I love the Workman’s friend or Dilworth Tasting Room. The Whitewater Center is always a treat and there are so many great hiking trails—200+ miles in Mecklenburg County. I’d spend an afternoon at the Mint Museum and see what’s happening at Blumenthal that night. Adore Charlotte FC games too.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to the whole Habitat team! Habitat Charlotte Region is a staff of 220 strong working in partnership to fulfill our mission.
