We had the good fortune of connecting with Shameka Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shameka, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business in FinTech was driven by a combination of factors and a thoughtful process. Here are key aspects of my thought process in the birth of Precision Advisory Group: Passion and Expertise: I identified an area where I had both passion and expertise. Starting a business in a field that genuinely interests me ensures that I am committed for the long term and willing to put in the necessary effort.
Identifying a Market Gap: I conducted thorough market research to identify gaps or unmet needs within the Accounting & Finance Industry. This helped me pinpoint opportunities where I could provide a unique and valuable solution.
Problem-Solving: I focused on solving a specific problem or addressing a pain point for potential clients. I identified pain points for entrepreneurs and small business owners and a successful business often stems from offering a solution to a real-world problem.
Innovation: I wanted to bring something new or innovative to the market. I have a strong Accounting & Finance background and work directly with the emerging technologies within the industry. Implementing cutting edge technologies has formulated a more efficient process and solution for my clients.
Entrepreneurial Mindset: I assessed my own entrepreneurial mindset and risk tolerance. Starting a business involves uncertainty and challenges, and having the right mindset is crucial for navigating these hurdles. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset, and was raised by my parents who instilled the importance in knowledge, skills, and providing value to my community and society as whole.
Financial Viability: I conducted a thorough financial analysis to ensure that the business idea was economically viable. This included estimating startup costs, projecting revenue, and assessing potential profitability.
Networking and Mentorship: I sought advice from experienced entrepreneurs and built a network within the industry. Learning from others’ experiences and gaining insights from mentors helped shape my approach and decision-making.
Flexibility and Adaptability: I acknowledged the dynamic nature of business and the need to be flexible and adaptive. This mindset is crucial for adjusting strategies based on market feedback and evolving trends.
Long-Term Vision: I developed a clear long-term vision for the business. Having a sense of where I wanted to take Precision Advisory Group in the future helped guide my short-term decisions and actions.
Passion for Independence and Legacy: A strong desire for independence and the vision of creating something enduring from the ground up were significant motivators. The aspiration to leave a legacy, not just in terms of the business itself but also in making a positive impact on the industry and community, was a driving force.
In summary, my decision to start a business was a result of careful consideration of my passion, market opportunities, problem-solving approach, innovation, financial feasibility, networking, adaptability, and a long-term vision.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In the fall of 2023, I established Precision Advisory Group, a concept that had been percolating in my mind for several years. My journey began as an Accountant immediately after earning my Bachelor’s in Finance from Alabama State University. Over the years, I navigated various industries, including manufacturing, non-profit, and governmental sectors. Starting as an intern and progressing to the role of Accounting Manager, my ambition was fixed on becoming a CFO of a major corporation, believing it was the path to provide for my family.

However, as a mother of two young children, I recognized that a demanding role might compromise valuable time with my family. This realization prompted me to pivot into the tech space. Upon completing my Master’s in Information Systems Management from Auburn University in Montgomery, I transitioned into a Consultant role, implementing cloud-based financial management software for global organizations. This diverse career path equipped me with the business acumen needed to establish my own venture and contribute to the development of other businesses.

Desiring a deeper connection with my community, I embarked on the challenging journey of building a business from the ground up and achieving independence. The process demanded dedication and sacrifice, yet the ability to work remotely and be present for my family made it all worthwhile. What sets Precision Advisory Group apart is our commitment to efficiency through automated systems, ensuring streamlined processes for our clients.

I am an eclectic individual and a creative to the core. My passions lie in the arts, music, downtown rooftops, scenic views, and amazing food. When hosting guests, I gravitate towards unique restaurants in the heart of Birmingham, steering clear of chain establishments. For me, it’s not just about the venue but the overall experience, including the people. I often guide my guests to lounges or cultural events, fostering connections with brilliant and creative minds. My desire to connect, network, and inspire extends to any setting. Additionally, I enjoy taking guests to wine/bourbon tastings or breweries, where we can relax and enjoy the chilled environment, accompanied by the nostalgic sounds of old-school hip-hop vinyl spins.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I extend honor to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, drawing inspiration from His teachings. Through His favor, protection, and provision, I have been enabled to embrace my divine purpose. Guided by His example, I am called to serve and make a positive impact in my community. As it is written in Matthew 20:28, “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many,” I strive to embody the spirit of service in fulfilling my purpose.

Next, I express deep admiration for my parents who have imparted in me the values of diligence, education, and community engagement. My father, by founding religious ministries and non-profit organizations, played a significant role in shaping my entrepreneurial mindset. Meanwhile, my mother, serving as a source of inspiration, guided me toward the fields of Accounting and Technology. She skillfully oversees the financial aspects of my parents’ ministries and non-profit endeavors. Their guidance, emphasizing independence and community service, has been instrumental in defining my role in society. I am truly blessed to have their unwavering support throughout life’s journey.

Finally, I extend a heartfelt shoutout to my tribe—comprising colleagues, mentors, friends, and family. They have been witnesses to my evolution, observing the highs and lows, successes, and failures. Through it all, they have seen my unwavering determination to persevere. They deserve the flowers of gratitude and acknowledgment for their role in shaping and molding me throughout life’s journey. I am eternally grateful for their presence and support.
