We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Welch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sean, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
I’m trying to be remembered as one of the greats in poetry. I hope my poetry, my craft lives beyond me. I hope that I influence others with my words. I hope that on your Mt. Rushmore of poets, my face is one of them. Too many niggas wanting to be subpar with they craft. I am trying to build a brand that will set the standard for the next generation of artists.

What should our readers know about your business?
It was very hard getting to this level of my artistry. A lot of naysayers kept doubting me, my family hasn’t always supported me the way that I feel as if they should have; and before PPC, I haven’t had any significant other to support this dream; this has been a lonely journey. But I kept going, kept writing, and people have resonated with a lot of my words, and honestly fell in love with my work. PPC has helped me overcome a lot of what I would think as my “self-sabotage” antics. It comes a time when you just have to do what needs to be done for yourself and for your dreams. Whatever it is that you have your heart set out to do, do it. Don’t let anything get in your way.

 

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the mountains. Get them out the city and relax in peace. Hiking, picnicking, and site seeing.

 

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Prolific Poetry Collective. This group that I am apart of has been a staple in this part of my career. Grandma Twan – The Madam Nasty, IndigoYaj, Zayy The Prince of Poetry, & my baby Aisha, Our Friendly Neighborhood Love Poet. These individuals have really shaped where I want to take my poetry and I am so happy to have them apart of my career.
