Meet Samantha Coffin | Owner, Matcha Nude

We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Coffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
A lot of people say with entrepreneurship that you have to jump. Jumping is hard and for many of us, we can’t jump. Our family depends on us. Maybe we are the breadwinner, maybe of family lives paycheck to paycheck. What I did was different. I dipped my toe into entrepreneurship about 8 years ago and I kept dipping – slowing and one step at a time. When becoming the owner of Matcha Nude became a possibility, it would have been easy to say NO and run the other way. It would have also been easy to move right into blind and fail. I went for the middle ground. I reached out to all the resources I could. I asked a lot of questions and I took it one baby step at a time. It was still a risk but I minimized the risk by going boldly and bravely BUT not all at once. And for me, this has been a great move. Even with hiring. Our employee with the most hours started at just five hours a week and has slowly increased. This has been sustainable for us.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets us apart is the community driven aspect of Matcha Nude. When I first started drinking matcha, I felt like I was on an island and to be honest, it was long enough ago that I kind of was. Not many were drinking matcha yet. I found myself watching YouTube video after YouTube video wondering if I was doing it “right”. With Matcha Nude, I wanted to make sure we not only made it easy, but approachable, fun and delicious and I think we our recipes, videos and events – we have done just that!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recommend hitting up the farmers market, the maker markets (there are always some happening) and meet the small businesses this make this city!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The other entrepreneurs in Asheville like Gwendolyn Darë, Neomi Negron, Rachel Meyer, Ashley Haywood, and the owners of Pirani, Danielle Del Sordo and Brandegee Pierce. These people have been game changers. Also the Elevate mentorship program through Asheville Chamber of Commerce. None of this would have been possible without Mountain Bizworks and a huge shoutout goes to NC Idea. All of these people and organizations are by biggest cheerleaders, advocates and resources!
