We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
From a young age, being creative and artistic was always a part of who I was, and still am. Creating for myself and for others gives me joy and a lot of fulfillment. Creation comes in many forms, as many of us know, and sometimes that creation also comes from creating new life paths for ourselves. Creation can also be a great tool of expression, of allowing someone the open and safe space to work through something as well, which I do this myself a lot too. So pursuing an artistic/creative path in life just came naturally to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art creations often come from the heart, like many artists I know, I also pour a lot of myself into each piece I do. My time, my energy, and intent with the piece I am working on is important. I do my best to connect with whatever it is I am creating, letting it speak itself into existence, weaving magic together as we go. I also use reiki every time I create, infusing it into each color used, each brush stroke made, each acrylic pour done, and every drop of water used with watercolor. I make it a point to do my best to connect with clients, to listen to their desires around the piece being made, to create for them intuitively, and to create a piece that speaks to them in the moments of the journeys they are on. Does it set me apart from others? Possibly. But being set apart from other artists isn’t always the goal or point. Sometimes, we have to just be willing to step into the unknown and create from within, to bring our stories (and others stories) on to paper, canvas, or through some other creative medium.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are many places around where I live that can be fun and exciting for people to visit, to be entertained, and more. For me, I am one of those that enjoy more simple things. For example, I enjoy bringing people with me to the different art exhibits that are displayed downtown outside and throughout the Arts Council building as well. Pierro’s and the Blue Moon Cafe are two of my favorite places to eat downtown, and I often find myself looking for trails to explore. My favorite places to explore out in nature are at Raven Rock. I get a lot of my inspiration from just being outside, or watching people move around from one place to another.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have many amazing and wonderfully supportive people who surround me. It didn’t always used to be like this, but I am grateful everyday for each person that has been there and been an impact in my life. From my art teachers when I was younger and in elementary and high school, to the amazing individuals that surround me today like my husband (Jason), my children (Serenity, Kieran, Sahara, and Alex), my beautiful partner (Beth Joy), and my amazing and supportive friends (there are so many that I could name!). These different individuals have been supportive, kind, understanding, and uplifting throughout the years and have constantly pushed me to better myself each and every day.
