Meet SAIGA | Neo-pointillist and Sculptor

We had the good fortune of connecting with SAIGA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SAIGA, what matters most to you?
I think creating work that is uniquely my own is most important to me. I know that selling work can be challenging and I’m sure every artist at one point or another is tempted to lean into work that they might view as more sellable, even if it strays from the vision that they have for their own process.
It’s important because art is beautiful but It’s also a bit bizarre if you really think about it. If I’m perusing this strange, sometimes undefinable career, I feel like I should be creating the things that most intimately speak to me, even if they don’t have a seller in mind when I’m making them.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my work I seek to capture the energy and vibrancy of my younger years, bringing to life the heroes, villains and robots that entranced me as a child. I am fascinated by technology old and new and often find ways to blend nostalgia with contemporary ideas.
I think consistent work helped my find my place professionally. I don’t think it was easy, but it was intentional and consistent. I focused on quality of work and the cultivation of a community. I’ve learned that just because no one is verbalizing the hard work you’re putting in, doesn’t mean they don’t see it. I’ve learned the importance of discerning which opportunities are worth the investment of my time and energy; A lesson that came after some bad investments. I’ve learned that growing as an artist can be a team effort as much as a solo endeavor.
I want the world to know that when you see or receive anything from me, whether a sticker or an entire payphone made of resin, you can expect the same level of quality.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think we would start the day off at Coco and the director, it has great vibes, good coffee, and I often sit somewhere in their spacious array of seating options to plan out my day over a cappuccino.
I would take them to Salud Beer Shop for a late lunch, which not only has a great beer selection, but also delicious bites. It’s also a pretty well known artist hangout, and I frequent it myself.
Later on we would definitely end the night at Super Abari, which not only speaks to my love of video games and nostalgia, but has art and murals inside from some well known artist like Ken Knudtsen and John Hairston Jr.
Their Princess Peach Drink is also really good.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is to my Fiancé Melanie, whose ear I bend often to talk about obscure concepts and possible pieces. She’s an avid supporter through my peaks and valleys of confidence and uncertainty.
