We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Stevens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Giving each client personal service and being available after tax season. As industry professionals, especially when it comes to the tax industry, we can get so wrapped up in the numbers, we forget there are real people behind each of them. I spend more time with each client to be sure they understand their tax situation and know how to read their return. I feel this gives them power because as we all know, knowledge is power.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the owner of Stevens Accounting and I believe that what sets me apart from others is my personal service offered to everyone who is a client of my firm. I take the time to get to know each one so that I can better understand them and their tax situation.

My business grew over the years and this is because of the word of mouth. My clients would tell their family members and their friends and the rest is history. My firm grew from 6 clients to the more than 500 today. Being a female business owner in this type of business was not easy. In fact there were several male potential clients who doubted my skills but later found out that not only could I do the job, I could do it with ease. Overcoming this challenge was huge but knowing I did has prepared me for other challenges that have come my way.

I also learned that I cannot look at the success of another tax firm, rather just keep striving to be the best I can for my clients. I want the world to know that I take pride in my business and that pride is what keeps me going in this business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For an itinerary, we would start with breakfast at Another Broken Egg Cafe, then for some sightseeing in the massive downtown of Raleigh, we would go to the North Carolina Museum of Art, where I have seen some exquisite pieces! We would end the day with dinner at the Willard Rooftop Lounge.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to first give honor and glory to my God who is ultimately responsible for giving me this talent and skill set. Secondly, I have to recognize those clients who, from my early beginnings when I only had around 6 clients, have stuck with me through the years. This is dedicated to them!
