We had the good fortune of connecting with Reese and Anna Edgington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reese and Anna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The story behind creating our own business has evolved over time. We love to grill, barbeque, and smoke meats to bring family and friends together with the end goal of strengthening relationships and creating memories over amazing meals. What better way to do that then by creating innovative and delicious seasoning that make it easier for families to cook with all natural quality ingredients made by hand with love. For over 25 years our family has been known to have amazing cookout “get togethers” and during that time we’ve created some amazing seasonings blends that continue to receive raving reviews from all of our friends and family. We started “Its All Good Seasoning LLC” in 2019 as an opportunistic journey to not only offer amazing rubs but to also teach our kids how business works. At ages 12 and 16 our kids played critical roles in the start of our business from social marketing, sales, seasoning design and manufacturing. They had a front row seat in how to start and operate a business. We used to wake them up at 6AM on Saturday mornings to help us prepare and sell our rubs at the Clayton Farmers Market to learn the meaning of hard work and dedication. Jokingly, we used to call it “forced family fun” and the memories we’ve created over the years has been amazing. They’re now 18 and 21 years old with aspirations to create their own businesses one day. As Anna and I prepare to be empty nesters, we are seeing the benefits of our family’s faithfulness to this business and look forward to continuing to share our story and delicious rubs with customers as we step into the next chapter of our lives.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We started experimenting with grilling, barbeque and smoking when we lived in Oklahoma in 1998. Reese was in the Air Force then and we’d get together with one of his close friends to figure out how to smoke a brisket. Looking back it seemed like we were always cooking something on the grill and creating some pretty awesome memories. Reese served in the Air Force for 5 years and then pursued public sector IT consulting that he continues in today. I was a teacher for 18 years and just recently retired and shifted full time into growing Its All Good Seasoning and private tutoring in reading and math. We have both learned a ton in our professional careers and the experiences we’ve had taught us perseverance, dedication, building relationships, and rising to any challenges presented. We were in business for only a year before COVID presented itself. We had the challenge of not being able to do farmers markets, to having to completely change our packing due to low inventory on shakers and lids. We had to overcome and keep the business going while everything was shutting down. The great thing is we improvised and came up with new ideas for packaging and were able to overcome the challenges of the new guidelines at the farmers markets. At the end of the day, Reese and I enjoy spending time together and cooking great meals using our seasonings. We look forward to seeing new faces and familiar faces each weekend at the farmers market. We love supporting local farmers and businesses and being a part of a tight knit community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, we love the beach since we both grew up in Va. Beach, so that would be one place to visit. Our favorite is Emerald Isle and Beaufort, NC. We would take a little weekend trip and enjoy the beach. Then eat great food at Fish Hut Grill, and The Village Market. Next, a day trip to Beaufort to walk around, shop and have lunch at The Black Sheep. We also love to support local businesses in Clayton as well. A trip to Downtown Clayton to have coffee at Boulevard, shop at The Market at Three Little Birds, lunch at Vinson’s, Jones Cafe, or Snacks Provision Company. Later that evening some Axe trowing at Epic Axe and a yummy dinner at Crawford Cookshop, then onto Deep River Brewing Co or La Di Da for a glass of wine. A visit to the Clayton Farmers Market as well as a hike on any of the local trails or a trip to Raven Rock State Park. We love our small town!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We owe a debt of gratitude to our friends and family who have encouraged and supported us over the years. Our families have been amazing in spreading the word about Its All Good Seasoning across the US. The Wintersteins for encouraging us to get the business started and being our biggest fans. The Clayton Farmers Market for giving us the opportunity to share in our community and the local Clayton businesses that helped by stocking our products in their retail stores from the beginning.
