Meet Quincy Jones | Personal Chef & Caterer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Quincy Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quincy, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Well I believe the behind the scenes process to having a catered event is what gets over looked. Pulling off a successful catering event starts with the initial customer interaction. Thats a process in itself. Then from talking and planning with a potential client about their vision all the way through to shopping, prepping, cooking delivery setup, service and then cleanup. Many often just see your face and the food not the many things that took place in order to serve a consistent great tasting quality product.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the owner of Taste Of Soul Southern Cuisine & Catering based in Raleigh NC. My company offers Private Chef services as well as event Catering. We service all over NC and beyond. I am super proud of the diverse customer base that we have been able to service over the years. Catering events in TN, SC, VA and DC to name a few. It takes alot of hardwork and resilience to be a full time business owner and entrepreneur. Finding new ways to connect, stay relevant and to continue to maintain consistent business through ever changing economic structures. When looking at what it takes to run a business and how you can sometimes get lost in work I have learned that it is important to take time to rest and recharge to avoid stress and burnout.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting Raleigh from out of town I think I would definitely have to take them to the Warehouse District in downtown Raleigh. The Morgan Street Food Hall. To showcase some of the great culinary creatives in the area. Also stop and have some drinks on a rooftop bar like Tinroof, The Raleigh Times or The Raleigh Beer Garden. Checking out any of the nightlife and restaurants on Glenwood South .Would take them to check out a show at either Improv or Goodnights. And one of my favorite nostalgic places to hit Boxcar Arcade.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I have to give much credit to my mother Sonya for being the first person to ever put a pot in my hand as a kid. I remember like it was yesterday just sitting on a stool in the kitchen soaking it all in! Her teaching and sharing her love for food and family and bringing people together over a shared meal and good company has layed the groundwork for my interest and love for the culinary industry. Going a step further she supported me and cheered me on through my choice of leaving college and attending culinary school. And even now with her being retired has helped many times with catering eevents. I’m not sure I would be the passionate Chef I am today without her passing her love of food to me.
