Meet Queen Sanaa | Fashion Designer & Vocal Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Queen Sanaa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Queen, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I come from a family of artists. Drawing, painting, singing, dancing, there are so many elements of art in my dna. It seems like art has been in my life from a very young age.
As a fashion designer, I realize that all of my skills have an element of artistic ability. From drawing the concept to fabric selection, there is an art to the execution of the design.
As a vocal music artist, I have chosen to follow in my family’s footsteps. My parents introduced me to music early. They had a music career before I was born. It’s literally in my blood.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art encompasses fashion design, vocal music, and a visual content. What sets me apart from others is a global platform which allows me to showcase all of my art in one space. My passion and longevity are also standout features.
I am most excited about my recent single ‘The Kids’ that I released on the same day I received the Excellence in Fashion award. Overall I’m excited that I get to do the things I love to do instead of wishing I had done it.
Getting to where I am now has been an interesting journey. Sometimes it seemed to be so easy, while other times it seemed like there were more failures than successes. Sometimes it seemed like I was unstoppable. What I realized is that there will always be challenges. My ability to navigate them and persevere through them comes down to my perspective and diligence. Constantly recognizing what I can change, and remembering not to put too much energy into what I can not change. Acceptance. Being diligent about finishing a project while working at my pace.
I learned that life is about being in the moment. It would be an incredibly mundane existence if we did not stop and celebrate the victories, no matter how big or small. I learned that it’s important to enjoy life. It is a gift. I learned to stop wasting time doubting my craft and ability, and double down on my strengths. Instead of focusing on what I can’t do, I produce twice as much of what I can do. I learned the importance of the phrase ‘underpromise and overdeliver’.
I want the world to know that I stand on my brand at all times. When you hear Queen Sanaa Music, you’re listening to my heart and soul. When you wear Savvy Chic Clothing, you’re wearing my passion and dedication to the finished look. When you’re engaging with my visual content The JUST LIVE Podcast, you are seeing my most authentic self. I went through a lot to get where I am today. Ups and downs, joys and pains, even a few life altering events. I had setbacks and each was a set up for success. What you see is my commitment to my art. Yes, it is important that people enjoy my work, and it’s even more important that I love what I do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First Watch is a great breakfast choice for the best lemon ricotta pancakes and a Purple Haze (butterfly pea flower tea, lavender, lemon) to top it off.
I love to visit Morgan Street Food Hall, there’s so much variety and a really family friendly atmosphere. Jacks Seafood and Soulfood is another favorite, with some of the best home style seafood, hands down. I like Sassool for their gluten free options, and vegan desserts. And of course, Pure Vegan Café and Irregardless offer a wide range of vegan menu options.
I am a huge fan of the North Hills scene with Kings Bowl at the top of my list. Yard House offers a pleasant dining experience and a quality drink menu. Topping it off with Kilwins confections is only right.
There are several art galleries that feature local and regional artists. Each one offers a unique experience.
Watts and Ward is a great choice for a bar lounge experience. The atmosphere is very adult and very chill. And the aesthetic is classic chic. I love to visit The Pour House Music Hall when I’m in the mood to relax and listen to live music and Star Bar when I want live music, good food, and socializing!
There are so many great places to visit in Raleigh, so our plans could change at any moment!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give credit to my mom who believed in my vision from the beginning.
NCCUs Fashion Inc., Carr Creations, SSBCMG, LLC, People Promoting Peaceful Processes, WWPM Ministries, M.O.M. Ministries, Future Hope, GPLN, Holistic Hustle, HandsOfAlchemy, ACHI Magazine, and so many more!
I appreciate ALL who have contributed to my successful outcomes.
