We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Fearing and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patricia, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
That what can appear to be the smallest event can get stuck in us in detrimental ways, especially when we are kids. This doesn’t mean we lack resilience or that we are weak. Trauma can look different for each of us simply because we are all different have different experiences of life.

What should our readers know about your business?
Playfully Heal is a counseling practice geared to helping children, teens and millennial adults work through childhood trauma and the anxiety that comes from difficult life experiences. It’s a unique practice in that I offer virtual play therapy and EMDR sessions. Mastering effective and connectional therapy in a virtual format is one of the accomplishments I’m most proud of. I started Playfully Heal during the pandemic, and it’s been a challenging experience. There is no easy button to starting and running a business. I owe a lot of my success to my persistence to make this business thrive. I went to school for counseling, so business 101 didn’t come easily to me. I’ve had to take a lot of time to learn business skills I didn’t learn in school. Playfully Heal allows for access to quality therapy no matter where you are located. Being able to provide that kid of access makes all the challenges worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Greensboro and love the food scene here! Crafted The Art of the Taco is one of my family’s favorite places. I also have young children, so we spend quite a bit of time at the children’s museum and the Greensboro Science Center. I love that the zoo is only a quick drive from us as well. Having lived in NY, my husband and I have been so impressed with the Tanger Center and the quality of national tours they bring in! The downtown experience as a whole has been a treat.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe so much of my success to the constant encouragement of my parents to try new things, learn as much as I can and go for what I want in life. I have also had incredible influences, like Mr. Rogers, and teachers, such as Annie Monaco and Ann Beckley-Forest, Dr. Samuel Gladding, Dr, Kathy Dawson and Jennifer Rinaldi. Most certainly not least would be my husband, Stephen, who helps my goals become reality every day.
