We had the good fortune of connecting with Parker Jadyn Brightwell-Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Parker Jadyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Well since I was 9 yrs old, I was not thinking of becoming an author. One day, I told my grandmother a story about me being nervous about starting Kindergarten and she thought it would be a great idea for a book so we began the process of making it happen.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like doing and watching theater such as musicals and plays. My personality and talent sets me a part from others. I love singing, dancing, acting, writing and reading. I have a good memory as well. I am most proud of my ability to dance because I am really good at it.

It was easy to be where I am today because I’m good at making up stories and telling old stories. I have gotten used to telling old stories and memories so some of it isn’t as new to me as you would think for a 10 yr old.

I would like the world to know that in middle school, I will be writing another book and it’s going to be about anti-bullying.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It would depend on the budget but I would first like to visit the school where we met because we both are no longer attending the school. I would love to go back there and visit to bring back some old memories. If our old teachers were there, maybe we could visit them. I would ask her where she wanted to eat while she was here and then we would go to those places. Maybe if she likes it, Boba, (a milk tea drink with jelly balls) we could have that. Then, we could go play soccer together at Merrick Moore Park since we both are on soccer teams. We also could have a sleep over after a long day of playing and maybe her step sibling could come with us.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my friend Isabella Serrano, who is an important part of the story. Shout out to my publisher Ms. Ebony Bailey of Purposely Booked, LLC. Shout out to my grandma, Fatima Smith for reaching out to people and for giving me opportunities. Shout out to my mom, Dione Jackson for always supporting whatever I do. Shout out to my illustrator Sarsif, for doing the pictures how I wanted them.
