Meet Paige King Johnson | Singer-Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige King Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige King, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I think the most important decision I ever made as a singer-songwriter was to stop worrying myself so much about trying to write music to please other people or people in the music industry and to just start writing songs that told my story and resonated with me on a deep level. Once I stopped trying to force “good art” by other people’s standards and just started making art that mattered to me, it became GREAT art and people could see that!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Within the country genre, there are a lot of different sounds and approaches in commercial music these days. My heart and soul lie within the classic, honky tonk style of country music – think Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson. In June 2022, I finally released my debut full length album, which was a huge milestone for me as an independent artist! I spent over 3 years working on that album – so much time in writing and recording, but also in planning and strategizing and designing and marketing for its release. I’ve been playing music for 11 years now, and each year has brought more success and milestones, but also more challenges. Thankfully, the highs outweigh the lows, and I continue to fall deeper in love with my job with each show!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In my little corner of North Carolina, there’s so many great places to visit! First, I would spend time at Raven Rock State Park either hiking trails or horseback riding. I would spend lots of time in downtown Angier visiting all the great shops and restaurants. I would take them to see live music, if not at one of my own shows, then probably at some of the cool venues around the Triangle like The Pour House or Clayton Center. Then we would spend a lot of time with my family on our farm riding horses, cooking out, telling stories, and just enjoying nature!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom and Dad are two of my biggest supporters! They’ve been there since day one and have always cheered me on, even when I didn’t think things were going to work out.
