We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicki Ladon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicki, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thoughts to start a business of my own was born out of a failed collaboration that I felt the world needed. After the project failed I had to be honest with myself. I felt the stories I was ready to tell through the art of event planning needed to get out of my brain and into the world, however, I was afraid to put myself out there and needed the collaboration to feel confident enough to “test the waters”. But life had other plans, I am now carving a path for myself weather I still have fear or not doesn’t matter. I have to remind myself, “If not me then, who?”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel what sets me apart from everyone else is I operate in a league of my own prioritizing the story being told in every event I plan and execute, to every project I creative direct; a key component to the process I feel is ideal but is often lost when considering the client’s experience as well as their guests. At Museeya, planning an event is much more than a list of details, it’s curating a collection of moments that leave you breathless, for memories you’ll never forget. It’s storytelling in its most dynamic form, weaving together elements that tell tales that only come alive in your imagination. I live for the chance to bring someone ‘s dream event to life because every event should be treated just as special as its dreamer. I’ve gotten to where I am by connecting with other creatives, brands, and business professionals that are coming up along side me. I believe it’s extremely important to network horizontally first and then build up together. However, I feel my business is so young I still have so many people to connect with and so much further along to go and that aspect of the journey excites me most.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting the city for the weekend, I would hope they would visit in the spring, lets say April, when the weather is still good for some light layering but not to hot or cold. I think first I would take them to Brunch at Bagner and Alexa’s on Spring Garden. Next I would take them canoeing at the Lake Brandt Marina. Later, I would take them to Romeo’s and to take a walk downtown at Center City Park. The next day, I would take them to breakfast at Mimi’s café and then give them an excuse to dress cute, and put on that outfit they’ve been saving, to attend the Daze of Future Fashion Show Volume II: Live From The Vortex at Grapes and Grains Tavern in Revolution Mill to meet other amazing creatives and have some drinks. Lastly, I would take them to Jet Up Nutrition the next day to have an amazing energy tea to warm their bodies and rejuvenate them after drinking and dancing to music at Grapes and Grains Tavern. Lastly, I would take them to Sonder to wine down in the sensory deprivation tank or infrared sauna.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my mom who despite over simplifying the process, by telling to “just do it yourself”, was exactly right. What I needed to do was to do just that. I also want to shout out Keisha Scott of K. Scott weddings who I worked for as an event assistant briefly, I learned so much from her on how to organize and execute a large scale event. I still refer to some of the things I absorbed from working along side her to this day.

Other: Daze of Future Fashion Volume II: Live From The Vortex is the second installment of the Daze of Future Fashion series putting a spotlight on emerging artists to showcase the importance of making room for the future and that the future of fashion, art and design does indeed look very bright. This cycle makes its mark by emphasizing the illusions we fall victim to in a black and white world and encourage all who partake in this fashion experience to see truth in the illusions all around us, breaking free of the boxes we’re put in. The ticket link is listed above in the website box. We are still accepting event sponsors more information can be found by emailing grandplanning@museeya.com
