We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Baxter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have been creating my art in some capacity for my entire life and can’t imagine another way. When I’m not creating that’s all I can think about. When I am it feels like everything is right. Self-expression is a huge part of who I am, so it only felt right to lean into it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is visual or audible, hand-painted, digital, and often sometimes mixed-media. It is not shy about using color, and will likely reflect my experiences with an injection of 90’s/2000’s cultural nostalgia. My current project is called GNICK TUNES. It’s a series of rap songs I am writing and animating. I’m also taking commissions now. Getting to where I am today has taken a lot of time, a lot of personal and artistic growth and a lot of lessons and patience but looking at my life as a whole, so far, it all seems perfect and every step is important because for every challenge has helped mold me and clarify my purpose. I’ve done art my whole life it’s just begun as far as my professional art career goes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I’m choosing, we’re getting breakfast at Benchwarmers Bagels, then we’re going to the North Carolina Museum of Art to see what they’ve got going on or stroll around outside enjoying the scenery. After that, we might have to hit Marsh Creek Skatepark, The Conlon Family Skatepark or ride out to Durham and do some skateboarding and hit Pure Soul for lunch. I’d take them to finish the visit by seeing a punk/metal or hip hop/rap show somewhere in the RDU area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife, Jazz, who has always encouraged and inspired my creative endeavors.
