We had the good fortune of connecting with Nga Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nga, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Vietnam. I have lived in Washington State for 6.5 years before moved to NC to run Bee Banhmi restaurant. My background and upbringing did impact who I am today in a different way: the cultural roots were partly reasons why I made some mistakes.

After a few years encountering with Western culture, I learned new knowledge and developed new perspectives about life and changed the direction of my life to the point of leaving my culture behind and eventually relocated to The United States of America.

(I am delivering a speech- how to leave a culture that holds you back- on the Tedx Talk sstage in November.)

What should our readers know about your business?
Bee Banhmi was founded and built by Kaley Tran with the passion of introducing the world’s best street food to as many customers as possible. I am adding my passion of using food as a way to improve health. What I am most proud of is the recipes that Kaley started the restaurant with have been loved by our customers, and I am excited about the restaurant’s next development: becoming one of the most loved kitchen by the customers.

I made the decision to become a co-owner of Bee Banhmi quickly and landed on RDU airport about 2 weeks after my decision. Making decisions quickly and going all in on building business are the key for me to get where I am now. It was not easy. I overcome challenges by keeping my visions clear, nurturing my passion and maintaining self-confidence by knowing I have great adaptation and innovative thinking abilities.

One lesson I learned is that good intentions create great outcomes.

What I wanted the world to know my brand is that Bee Banhmi focus now is convenient and healthy food. We will launch new items on our menu focusing on health improving via food.

Personally, my story when it comes to opening restaurants is always about having the ability to cook better, healthier food. I had great experience with how collective food and cooking method could bring happiness, health improvements for myself, my family members and people I have helped changing diet.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Kaley Tran- the previous owner of Bee Banhmi is my awesome supporter for this journey of running the restaurant.
