Meet Nakisha AKA She SLAYS | Certified Life Coach, speaker, author, Model, MC/Host, Model Coach, Trainer & Coordinator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nakisha AKA She SLAYS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nakisha AKA, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I heard it said that children are expert mimickers, and that while they may not always hear and obey what we say they will often expertly do what we model for them. One of my greatest accomplishments as a parent is to be a living example of what it means to live full and die empty. I make every effort to exercise my faith in God’s word, pray, and be all I can while I can. On a practical level I am also proud of the fact that my oldest son understands the importance and impact of a strong prayer life and that he can recite scripture on command. Furthermore, I am so proud that my son has already been inspired to follow in my footsteps and be his own boss even as a child. He has already experienced entrepreneurship before the age of 10 years old.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am H.O.P.E which is an acronym for Humor, Optimism, Patience, & Encouragement. I am a Coach, Model, Author, Mentor, MC, and Speaker. While I harbor many talents and gifts I am ultimately here to Educate, Empower, & Equip young women to serve as Queens in Excellence through my coaching and mentoring business S.L.A.Y University, LLC. What helped me launch my business was far from easy but it is more than worth it. I went through a period in my life where I felt that I was simply existing and going through the motions of life. Simply put, I was in a rut where it felt like what the bulk of my day entailed was working and paying bills. At that time I was also an active and involved church-going single mother who was EXHAUSTED and DRAINED more often than not! Finally I got to a point where I prayed and called out to God very candidly asking Him “Why He continues to wake me up each day,” because what I was doing could not be ALL that He had in mind for me to do with my life. I asked Him to lead me and guide me to my purpose so that I could essentially lead a more fulfilling life. Insert my life coach who helped me discover exactly who God created me to be and offered me clear, practical guidance on how to apply my divine identity to my daily life. Once I was armed with this new knowledge of not only my divine identity and purpose but also life coaching in general I was unstoppable. I continued with the lessons and practices I acquired during my 3 month program with my life coach and used them as the foundation and stepping stones to build my very own best version of myself and ultimately my own coaching and mentoring business. Now I seek to help women–especially single mothers/mothers in general– be their best selves. I learned firsthand how exhausting it is to pour from an empty cup or be more to others than we are to ourselves. This is something that many women are guilty of and I am on a mission to help women recognize and live their true value and realize their dreams. We are leaders in inspiration to our children and families and we cannot attempt to lead others where we refuse to go. We MUST do our best, to pass every test, and in God learn to rest.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my absolute favorite places in Durham, NC is a great Vegan Place called Earth To Us! They actually opened a location in Raleigh as well that is just as yummy! They have thee best loaded nachos and desserts! Another favorite restaurant of mine is Shiki Sushi. Another must see place is any fashion show that I’d walk in! 🙂 We could likely catch an event at the PNC Arena in Raleigh. I’d say a college football or basketball game is a great way to pass the time. There are also a lot of community events in the RDU area that are certainly worthwhile! Downtown in either city offers a wealth of options.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I would be nowhere without God thee Father of all creation and the people that he staffed my life with. I have had some amazing people in my village and tribe who have only added to and enhanced my journey thus far. So many people helped shape me into the woman I am today and I am sure that more people will come along to further my growth. It is tough to narrow it down to only one person/organization but I will do my best. I will say that a big turning point for me was when I hired my life coach Tracy Mac (AKA Tracy McNeil) who helped me discover my divine identity and purpose. Once I made that discovery, it was the key that unlocked so much potential and greatness in me. I have to salute and shout out Life Coach Tracy Mac! She is now retired from her practice but her influence will forever be etched in my heart and journey. I am so grateful for her sharing of her gift of knowledge with me and assisting me with becoming my best self UNAPOLOGETICALLY.
