Meet Naila Waddell | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Naila Waddell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Naila, how do you think about risk?
Being an entrepreneur is not for the weak and it requires not only taking risks in opening and owning a business, but taking a risk by betting on yourself! We risk our lives driving to work daily or trying a new medication, risk taking is a part of our lives but I had never taken any type of risk before opening up a business where I had to bet on and believe in myself. My husband and I decided to open a New York style deli 8 years ago and the Unicorn Charcuterie Boutique was born 4 years ago when I started creating boards and teaching classes, but it was my husband who was the true risk taker. He taught me how to bet on myself. I lost him last year but I have continued on in both businesses still betting on myself. I can say that I have a successful business that’s continuing to grow and flourish. If I didn’t take the risk, where would I be today? The risk has to be worth the reward. That’s my motto.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I decided to create charcuterie 4 years ago. I am creative and an artist. When creating I see a blank space, a canvas, and the food are objects being placed on the canvas to create a picture. Being a part of people’s special occasions are not only humbling but so special for us. We see people getting married, birthday’s being celebrated, milestones like graduations, and much more. Our work becomes part of people’s memories from their special events. How amazing is that?!?! Let us make your event magical is our motto!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s a hard one! There are so many amazing places to go in Raleigh & Durham! I would say that going downtown in both of cities you can’t go wrong! The hotels are there, one has a theater, and the restaurants and night clubs are plentiful! I just love the triangle!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my kids. If it wasn’t for their hard work, dedication, and support, I wouldn’t be here today! Truly! They are my heroes! I want to give a shoutout to our customers, if they didn’t give us their business then we definitely wouldn’t be here. I also want to give a shoutout to my family and friends. My support system is INCREDIBLE! I am so thankful for each and every person that shows up for my kids and I. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
