Meet Molly Wilcox | Co-Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Molly Wilcox and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Molly, what do you attribute your success to?
From the start, our mission for Cup & Saucer has been simple: to serve extraordinary things in our cups and on our saucers, the best way that we know how. We believe that simple food and drink made well can be the most wonderful thing. It sparks creativity, community and is the simplest way you can show someone that you care.
I think the reason we have stayed successful is that we actually believe in what we do and how we go about our business.
Even in the beginning, just as the pandemic began, we realized that people were coming to us for comfort and respite from the world, even in the limited ways we were able to in those days. We have always made sure our identity as a shop did not sway with trends or outside pressures.
What should our readers know about your business?
Our story was heavily shaped by the global pandemic. We were only nine months into operating when the world literally shut down. We made a decision early on, to support our community in ways that we knew how. It took essentially pivoting daily to keep up with mandates, supporting our employees, and finding ways to bring comfort and respite to our community. It pushed us to respond in ways that showed care and love to others and that helped us in turn to not give into fear.
We owe our success to that response, and as the world seems to only continue to be chaotic, we continue to respond in similar ways.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are so fortunate to be surrounded by public lands, so we try to get people to get outside! Our little town is a hub for outdoor adventure sports enthusiasts, so whether you are a first time hiker or seasoned mountain biker, we hope each person gets out to experience the beauty of western North Carolina, so my advice would be to pack up a picnic and head into the forest!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our business owes its success to so many people. Obviously the hard work and dedication of my business partners, Elisabeth Nelson, Regina Tyler andour general manager Jeni Lacey. Without them, this dream of mine would never have been realized. Of course I have to mention my husband, Neal, and our families who have sacrificed so much to support us in this endeavor. I also think of each customer, employees, past and present, that have come along on our journey and supported us these past 6 years. We are the sum of all these parts, and owe our success to each person that has pushed us forward.
