We had the good fortune of connecting with Molly Harper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Molly, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My journey to becoming a full time Realtor was somewhat unplanned. I had obtained my license during Covid as something I would do in the future, when my husband and I moved to Lake Gaston full time. I joined a small boutique firm that allowed me to continue working as an IT sales account executive and transacting real estate part time. January of 2021, I had a meeting with my IT manager and was told my position was being dissolved. For over 30+ years, I had worked for large companies and achieved great success. I was stunned, defeated, and panicked. Thanks to the loving support of my husband, he picked me up and said, well I guess it’s time to be a full time Realtor. So that is what I did. Currently, I am an independent contractor with working for Heaton Real Estate and work with Clients on their buying or selling needs for homes and/or land. I was a resident of Cary for over 20 years, so have extensive knowledge of this area as well as Lake Gaston, Roanoke Rapids Lake and Kerr Lake knowledge.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being in sales my entire career, I have been surrounded by people who are unbelievable at what they do. Mentors who take your strengths and mold them in a specific way that proves success is not an option. I have always been very outgoing and a go getter. I have worked in several different aspects of sales for various companies. It has not always been easy. I struggled to acknowledge my success, but focused on what more could I do? I have had to learn too not be so hard on yourself. Mistakes happen. But you have to learn from those mistakes, so you don’t repeat them. Sales is a “what have you done for me lately” career. You are only as good as your last sale. And everyone is replaceable. That was a hard lesson learned after having my role with a large company-dissolved with no warning. I pride myself on communication and organization which only comes from being thrown into a role that demands that. A key thing that has taken years for me to learn, is the art of listening. Blocking out all thoughts to truly absorb what someone is saying. So much can be learned by this act. I am driven, passionate, and extremely client focused. My clients are the reason I want to succeed. Now that I work as a Realtor, this has become even more important. I don’t sell houses to make my firm money. I do it so that my clients are extremely happy. The days of doing things to get the sale so it benefits someone else are over. Reputation is everything and I thrive to get my clients a win – win result. Lastly, I have immense respect for those in my field. Working with other realtors, appraisers, lenders, inspectors, and lawyers is a necessary part of this profession. I need them to want to work with me to ensure the transaction goes as smooth as possible. Teamwork truly makes the dreamwork and surrounding myself with people that care, is a daily goal of mine.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have been so blessed to live in many places growing up. Lake Gaston is now my home, and I am in love with my surroundings. Having a lake home affords you many visitors. When we have people come to town, we spend a great deal of time on the water-boating and floating. But in cases where we explore the area, Rosemont Vineyard is on the list. Great venue, for wine tastings, outdoor concerts and festivals, and a friendly atmosphere. I am also a huge fan of Lake Gaston Golf Club. Sports has been an important part of my life since I was a child. Golf has become a passion over the past few years-something I can do with my husband, my son and my good friends. Restaurants are unique in this area. Watersview is where my husband convinced me to buy at Lake Gaston. Breathtaking views of the lake, spectacular food and excellent service. A new hot spot that just opened this year is Bow and Stern-outside bar that provides a great atmosphere to grab a drink, watch some sports, listen to some local bands all while overlooking the pristine water of Lake Gaston. Lastly, we are so fortunate to have the Lakeland Cultural Arts Center in Littleton. A beautiful theatre that brings art to the area. Plays, concerts, comedy shows, and a variety of talented performances are conducted in this stunning theatre just down the road from us.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is to my family. I was taught early on how important family is. My parents were amazing people who instilled in each of us the importance of goal setting, working hard for what you wanted and that never give up mentality. My Sister and Brother are true inspirations on what it takes to be successful in a career while maintaining a family first mentality. You know you will have setback and traumatic moments in your life. And to know they are always there for you, not matter what is something that sticks with you forever. I also have to give a ton of credit to my husband, Wes Harper. I have known him for over 28 years, married almost 12 years. He is truly my best friend and provides love, strength and patience to my life. He is a successful business owner, Cancer survivor, Reality TV survivalist, an author, public speaker and a golfer. How could that not inspire me? His support for me in everything I do is amazing. We are a blended family, bringing 5 children together. I have two and Wes has three. All the kids have been there for me at multiple times. I cannot imagine how boring my life would be without them. At times when I am feeling down because we don’t all live close by to one another, I get a phone call, or a text and it warms my heart. I cherish my time with each and every one of them.
