We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Cowan Rattray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, what matters most to you?
The value or principle that matters most to me is the Golden Rule, which is essentially to “do unto others as you would want them to do unto you.” This principle is significant to me for several reasons. First and foremost, the Golden Rule promotes empathy and compassion. It encourages us to put ourselves in others’ shoes and consider their feelings and needs. By treating others the way we would like to be treated, we foster a more harmonious and understanding world. This approach can lead to improved relationships, reduced conflict, and a greater sense of community. Additionally, the Golden Rule serves as a moral compass for ethical decision-making. It helps guide us in making choices that are fair, just, and considerate of others. When faced with dilemmas, I find that asking myself how I would want to be treated in a similar situation helps me make better choices. Furthermore, this principle transcends cultural and religious boundaries. It’s a universal concept that can be understood and applied by people from various backgrounds, making it an inclusive and unifying value. It promotes tolerance and respect for diversity. In a world where there is often division and discord, the Golden Rule reminds us of our shared humanity and the importance of kindness and consideration. It is a principle that can have a positive impact on both individual behavior and society as a whole, which is why it holds a special place in my values.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am passionate about the modeling and acting industry, and I’ve always dreamt of being a part of it. What sets me apart from others is my unwavering determination and the way I approach failures as motivation. Throughout my journey, I’ve learned to view setbacks as opportunities to improve, rather than reasons to be discouraged. For instance, when I don’t get booked for a role I auditioned for, I don’t let it bring me down. I firmly believe that the roles meant for me will eventually come my way.

My professional journey has been far from easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding. I’ve faced numerous challenges, including personal struggles, like getting kicked out in the middle of winter with my 5-month-old son and living in shelters. However, I never gave up on my dreams. I used these hardships as fuel to drive me forward. Constructive criticism has been invaluable in helping me grow and develop my skills. I always strive to learn from every experience, whether it’s a success or a setback.

What I’m most proud of is the transformation I’ve undergone from a difficult past to the woman I am today. From not knowing where to start in the modeling world to now getting booked regularly and even having the opportunity to star in, direct, and produce my own film is a testament to my perseverance. I’m also proud of my role as part owner of the production company Th3rd I Multimedia, which is a significant milestone in my career.

I want the world to know that I am not a product of my environment, and I am committed to spreading positivity and encouragement. My journey demonstrates that with determination and a positive mindset, you can overcome adversity and achieve your goals. I want to inspire others to believe in themselves, work hard, and never give up, no matter their challenges. I’m motivated to see not only myself but everyone around me succeed, and I’m excited to continue growing in the modeling and acting industry, both personally and professionally.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, man! I am a homebody, sadly I don’t have much but if I had to treat my bestie to a week of adventures here is a small itinerary that includes some of my favorite places.

Day 1:
Pick up my bestie from the airport.
Grab a meal at a restaurant of their choice.
Spend the evening at home, reminiscing about old memories, cooking their favorite meal for dinner, and having a movie night followed by karaoke.

Day 2:
Start the day with a homemade breakfast.
Go shopping to treat my bestie to some new clothes.
Enjoy dinner at Mezcalito, a restaurant known for its great food.

Day 3:
Bestie chooses the day’s activities.

Day 4:
Head to Waffle House for a brunch.
Visit The Cheesecake Factory for some delicious cheesecake.
Explore Crabtree Valley Mall for shopping.

Day 5:
Experience arcade action at Adventures Landing.
Enjoy dinner at Vivace in North Hills.
Watch a movie at Regal North Hills Theater.

Day 6:
Spend the remaining time at home, possibly cooking some more delicious meals and having quality time together.
