We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan Corum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meghan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was a stay at home mom for a couple of years. Which is a very important role. But I always knew I wanted to be able to be successful myself in a career because one day my babies will be in school and I wanted to have another purpose. I knew that I loved all things beauty. I was already getting my lashes done every few weeks. I was having my brows microbladed. I got facials every month and I loved makeup. So I figured what better way to take my passion for these things and just open up my own business being able to do what I love on other people. I also want my daughter to see me thriving as a woman owned business and I want her to know she is capable of doing anything she sets her mind to.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is my baby. It took me years to find my calling and my purpose other than being a mother. At my salon we offer lash services, brow services, facial waxing, and are now starting to offer skincare services. I also offer training as well.

Something that I believe sets me apart is how much I consider my clients family. All of my clients become friends. I am such a great listener and advice giver. I love to hear all of the life updates from them. I also am very OCD and passionate about my work. I put my all into my services. I won’t let you walk out of my salon if I wouldn’t be okay looking the way you look with my services.

I got to where I am today because of the mentors I’ve had that have helped push me. Also with the help of God. I love Jesus and pray to Him for guidance constantly. But I’ve also put a lot into my business. I’ve taken lots of training classes, including one in Australia for brows. It was definitely not easy. It’s been a long road of ups and downs. I’ve over come many challenges by just not giving up. Giving up is not an option when you love what you do.

I’ve honestly learned a lot of lessons along the way but a big one would be that not everyone is your friend. Not everyone has the same heart as you. Some people would rather see you fail than succeed and a client will be come a friend before a friend will become a client.

If there was one thing I want the world to know about me and my story, it would be that I never gave up or that I never let me being a mother stop me from what I wanted in life. Just because you already have children or feel like you’re “too old” to start a career, you’re not. If you want it, find a way to make it happen. It’s never impossible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming to visit Greensboro for a week I would first take her to M&R ice cream because if you know me, ice cream is my weakness and there’s never a wrong time of the day to have it. They have a million flavors and we love it there! Then we would have lunch at Print Works and get 5 different appetizers. I would then have to take her to Balance day spa to get a massage. We would then go to char bar for dinner and drinks because they have the best drink I’ve ever had in my life called Beth’s Pink Drink. I am a big foodie and love good food and drinks but more importantly desserts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to say there are 2 people I have to thank for everything. All the love, support and encouragement. The first person would be my husband. He has always supported all of the crazy business ideas I have had. Even if I came to him with the silliest idea, he has always had my back. While I was in school getting my license, he picked up the slack at home and helped me so much! The second person I have to thank would be my esthetics teacher, Mr. Charles. I don’t think he will ever realize what he did for me. He made me a new person in a good way. He taught me things that I will always take with me everywhere I go. He helped me in ways I could never repay him for. He encouraged me on my days I would come into school and want to give up. He started our days in school with affirmations and encouraging words and love. He made sure we had everything we needed to be successful. He always believed in me and still does 3 years after I’ve graduated. He is a mentor and someone I will always look up to for the rest of my life. He gave me push to open my own business right after I graduated even though I was scared.
