Meet Marsha Glickman | Upcycle Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marsha Glickman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marsha, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Yes! One of my favorite affirmations is “Hey Hey, 90 %”. To me, this means only 10% of what happens to you is beyond your control of “fixing it”; the other 90% is up to you and how you address and deal with it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is unique: I don’t paint beautiful pictures or portraits as many of my creative art pals do. I use ONLY found materials in my creations to give the otherwise discarded a new life in a new context. There is always a story or concept behind each work of art, and I’m most pround of the fact that I do not make copies of found ephemera; only original found papers and objects are my tools. I enjoy creating my “Street Finds” series, which consist of composing art from objects/trash found during walks in various towns in the area. Being a strong proponent of accelerating solutions to the climate change crisis is also a priority.
I believe that persistance and reslience are critical success factors in any business as well as not taking any criticism personally.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We will go to the North Carolina Museum of Art and view the exhibitions and buy local art in the Museum Store or at a Pop Up and then walk the Park and enjoy the sculptures.
Hopefully there will be a Triangle Art Works happy hour during the week that we will attend and enjoy mingling with local artists.
We will check out Golden Belt Arts in Durham on Taylor St. and ArtSpace in downtown Raleigh. It will be imperative to stop at Sir Walter Coffee on E. Davie St.!
I love downtown Cary, so we’ll check out the Cary Gallery of Artists, the Fine Arts League of Cary works at the Mayton Hotel and enjoy lunch or dinner at Academy Bistro, all within walking distance.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started my art career as a side gig in 2013 and, after giving up my corporate career during the pandemic, I realized that I had become truly sucessful. Great thanks are due to my fellow artist friends, mentors and studio mates I had in Houston before moving to the Triangle. This support here from new artist friends and organizations have also been phenomenal!
