We had the good fortune of connecting with Madelyn Lett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madelyn, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Thank you for asking me this question! As a parent, I have made it a priority to teach my children that success is something we can choose. I want them to understand that the circumstances in their lives don’t have to define their futures. Growing up was challenging for me, and even as an adult, I haven’t had much support. However, through my own journey, I am showing my kids that they can achieve their dreams and overcome any obstacle. I firmly believe that the only person who can limit their potential is themselves. I teach them that no goal is too small and as long as they are determined and work hard, they have the power to make anything happen.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What truly sets me apart from others is my unwavering passion and compassion for my business and clients. The relationships we have built are of utmost importance to me, and I take great pride in nurturing them.

Achieving the level of success I have today has not come without its challenges. Throughout my childhood, I experienced various forms of abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Despite facing such adversity, I have chosen to break the cycle and forge my own path towards success.

Starting a business can be an intimidating endeavor, and I can personally attest to the fear that engulfed me when I made the decision to pursue photography full-time. I have dedicated countless hours to honing my skills as a photographer and acquainting myself with the intricacies of running a business. Balancing these responsibilities with motherhood has proven to be my biggest struggle. While my children always come first, there are times when my business demands fall behind. Fortunately, my clients have consistently shown tremendous understanding and support, for which I am incredibly grateful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think the best time ever would be just being together!!! My best friend lives roughly 3000 miles away in the UK, so we are grateful for any moment we get to share. I think if we were to plan a week of activities I would first take her to Shackleford Banks to see the wild horses, stop at Famous Bakery in New Bern on the way, and pick up my all-time favorite cupcakes! I’d love to take her to dinner at Print Works Bistro in Greensboro, and Salt & Pepper Indian Cuisine in High Point. I would love for us to visit the museums in Raleigh and then head to Asheville to explore Biltmore Estate! These are just a few things, I could honestly go on and on with ideas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to express my deep appreciation and gratitude to Jen Sincero, the brilliant author of “You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life”. Reading this book in 2017 was truly transformative for me, as it opened my eyes to my self-worth and empowered me to stop settling for anything less than I deserved from the people in my life at that time.

Additionally, I want to give sincere thanks to my best friend Samara, my husband Skylar, cousins Jordan & Travis, and my dear friend Scarlett, who have always believed in me and constantly pushed me to reach my full potential. Their unwavering support and encouragement mean the world to me.

I am also immensely grateful to my children, as they serve as my greatest motivation and inspire me to keep pushing forward every day. Everything I do is fueled by my love and commitment to them.

Lastly, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to my sister-in-law, Shayla Herrington, the talented owner of Shayla Herrington Photography. She not only gifted me my first camera but also encouraged me to pursue my passion for photography. Though my circle may be small, the remarkable individuals who are a part of it have enriched my life in countless ways, and I am truly blessed to have them by my side.
