We had the good fortune of connecting with Lia McManaman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Since starting Kidstruction Zone LLC I have learned that having time for myself is really important. Being a stay-at-home mom and primary caretaker for my littles is one the most rewarding things in life, but I feel like it is really easy to lose a sense of identity outside of being a mom. Running this business and spending time doing deliveries and rental pick ups has been a great break from my regular day-to-day. I love seeing something that I created from the ground up become successful. For me, Kidstruction Zone gives me just enough work time to make my family time more precious.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The whole premise of my business is bringing smiles to kids’ faces. The best part about running Kidstruction Zone is seeing how happy everyone is to see my trailer pull up and unload all of the fun rentals. As far as I know, we are the only business of our kind and have traveled to many different states for parties and events. I am currently working on creating franchise opportunities and expanding the business in that way. I think the biggest lesson that I have learned is that I don’t have to choose between staying home with my kids during their younger years and working. I can do both!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my top favorite places to visit is the North Carolina Museum of Art. They have amazing rotating galleries and an absolutely stunning outdoor park. A perfect day would be spent touring the museum and eating a picnic lunch at the park. After that, I would zip over to Two Roosters ice cream for a treat. Another family favorite spot is Pullen Park. There is so much fun to be had there between the train, carousel, playgrounds, and large pond. You can even grab lunch there and eat under one of the many picnic shelters.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out to my wife for supporting me and encouraging me to build this business. She has cheered me on the whole way, and holds the fort down with the kiddos when I am out working. I also have to thank the inspiration behind it all- my kids. Without them, I would have never known the joy that construction and trucks could bring to one little person!
