We had the good fortune of connecting with Lena Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lena, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is authenticity. I have a few different sides of who I am, but every side you see is really me! And being all around genuine helps a lot, because I often find myself wearing many hats. I’m an artist that creates music, but I also cater to the needs of school age children, and advocate for mental health of all ages. My presence is what “sells” me, and so much of my brand is associated with my visibility. So it’s important for me to be authentic every way that I present. Some of these endeavors wind up incorporating elements of each other as well, so all of those components need to be credible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been given a lot of unique opportunities, and most of them actually are a result of my music. Ironically, I’ve worked in the mental health field before ever pursuing music professionally, but somehow my style of music shed a bigger light on my endeavors of advocacy. More opportunities in other industries became accessible after being an artist, and I tapped deeper into my own mental health once finding music to be my best outlet. I’d really like to thank those who are gracious enough to call themselves fans. However big or small in numbers, they have sincerely rooted for me, have been open about how my work has touched them, and have shouted out my name in ways I wouldn’t expect. I’ve learned two lessons along the way: firstly, to be grateful for the blessings that I receive, and secondly-this being a pretty recent lesson- is to toot my own horn sometimes. I work hard; sometimes in complex ways to align with my ADHD diagnosis, but hard nonetheless. I feel worthy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my sister, Anna Huckabee. Not once have I heard a shred of doubt in her voice regarding what I can do. Every dream I shared with her was met with either excitement or insight that could help me achieve those dreams. Anna carries so much resilience, rebellion and self-reflection as a woman, mom, wife, and huge life force in our family. I was also introduced to many of my musical influences via the records she would play or sing to in our house growing up, so I have to credit her being one of my sources of inspiration, as music is interwoven into so much of what I do.
